Abstract:

Apparatus and method for scribing a trim strip to fit between a cabinet and a nearby surface with a first edge of the trim strip facing one side of the cabinet and a second edge of the trim strip facing the surface in which a guide is run along the surface, a scribing tool spaced a predetermined distance from the guide transfers the contour of the surface to the trim strip as the guide is run along the surface, and the trim strip is held in a fixed position with the first edge of the trim strip offset from the side of the cabinet by the predetermined distance as the contour of the surface is transferred to the trim strip.

Abstract:

Scribing tool and dust collector for a router having a horizontally extending body which attaches to the router with a router bit extending along an axis of rotation through the body and projecting from a lower surface of the body for cutting engagement with an edge of a workpiece, a guide wheel mounted on the upper portion of the body for rotation about the axis, with an outer portion of the wheel projecting laterally from the body for engagement with a surface having a contour to be transferred to the edge of the workpiece by the router bit, a vacuum chamber within the body, an inlet port centered about the axis of rotation communicating with the vacuum chamber through a lower wall of the body, and a vacuum port communicating with the vacuum chamber for connection to a vacuum source to draw dust and chips produced by the router bit through the inlet port and into the chamber.

A scribing accessory for an offset router including an elongated metal plate having a guide wheel journaled to one end thereof and a spacer block attached to the lower surface thereof. Screws are provided for attaching the metal plate and/or block directly to the router base and for affixing a base plate to the bottom surface of the block. Alternatively, the base plate could be formed integral with the spacer block.
