Abstract:

A system and method for generating images of a subsurface region of interest is provided. In one embodiment, a computer-implemented method of generating images related to a subsurface region of interest includes: accessing, via a central processing unit (CPU), seismic data and an earth model related to the subsurface region of interest; forward propagating a source wavefield using the earth model at a first time interval via at least one external co-processor coupled to the CPU; transferring, at a second time interval, the forward propagated source wavefield to the CPU for compression and external storage; backward propagating the seismic data at the first time interval via the external co-processor to derive backward propagated receiver wavefield; and transferring, at the second time interval, the backward propagated receiver wavefield to the CPU. Via the CPU, the method further includes retrieving the stored forward propagated source wavefield; decompressing the retrieved forward propagated source wavefield; and applying imaging conditions to the decompressed forward propagated source wavefield and backward propagated receiver wavefield to construct image data representative of the subsurface region of interest.

Abstract:

An example computing device includes a controller to control operation of a firmware subsystem of the computing device. The controller is separate from a main processor of the computing device. A memory stores subsystem data that is useable by the controller. The subsystem data includes recovery information executable by the controller to initiate recovery of the subsystem. The computing device further includes recovery coordination instructions. The recovery coordination instructions determine integrity of the recovery information as stored on the memory and. In response to determining that the recovery information lacks integrity, the recovery coordination instructions initiate recovery of the firmware subsystem using a backup of the recovery information and perform recovery of the firmware subsystem using an update to the firmware subsystem.

Abstract:

Examples associated with basic input/output system (BIOS) up-dates are described. One example method includes system management mode locking a first pre-extensible firmware interface initialization (PEI) region and a driver execution environment (DXE) region of a shared serial peripheral (SPI) chip of a BIOS of a computer. A second PEI region of the shared SPI chip is chipset locked. A record in a system management random access memory associated with a video option read only memory (ROM) is created. The video option ROM is loaded. The first PEI region is updated, and periodic graphical updates regarding the progress of updating the first PEI region are provided using the video option ROM.

Systems and methods discussed herein are related to a coating for a diamond table for a cutting element that may be used in downhole tooling. The coating is employed to fill a plurality of voids left by the manufacturing process that compromise the integrity of the cutting element and the associated downhole tooling. The coating may comprise diamond nanoparticles in a metal matrix and may be used with or without a binder layer applied directly to the diamond table, the coating may alternatively be a pure diamond film coating, and may be employed to fill voids left by the manufacturing process.
