Abstract:
An execution engine embeddable in a plurality of host application programs to control execution of code in each of the host application programs is disclosed. The execution unit includes a command unit, an execution unit and a host call unit. The command unit receives commands from a host application program in which the execution engine is embedded, including a command to execute a sequence of platform-independent instructions. The execution unit executes the sequence of platform-independent instructions until an instruction indicating either a break event or a remote procedure call is detected. The host call unit initiates execution of one or more procedures in the host application program in response to the execution unit detecting the instruction indicating a break event or a remote procedure call.

Abstract:
Methods and apparatus for scheduling delivery of an order via a wide area network. A computer system associates a customer point value with each customer according to a customer point system. The customer point values is determined with reference to customer order data. The computer system then divides the customers into customer groups, each of which has a range of customer point values. The system determines an actual capacity allocation distribution among the customer groups based on the customer order data. The system adjusts the range of customer point values for customer groups to cause the actual capacity allocation distribution to converge to a target capacity allocation distribution.

A technique for effecting electronic commerce using a data network is described. The data network includes a plurality of subsystems which, together, form an integrated system for receiving customer orders for selected items via a data network, fulfilling the customer orders, and delivering the ordered products to the customers. Moreover, according to a specific embodiment, the integrated nature of the system architecture of the present invention allows the on-line merchant to provide a guarantee to the customer that the ordered items will be available to be delivered to the customer at the specified delivery date, time, and location.

Abstract:
A method is provided for monitoring, predicting performance of, and managing Business Operations by the simultaneous, real-time Integration, Normalization and Correlation of direct measurements at the Business Layer and other Layers of Business Operations. The other Layers considered, may include, for example, Application and Infrastructure Layers. The system enables the user to automate sophisticated management tasks by Correlating measurements of activity, performance and availability at all Layers of Business Operations. Significantly, the techniques described herein extend the domain of the Correlations across real-time measurements from all Layers of Business Operations, giving central importance to the measurements in the Business Layer within the Correlations.

Abstract:
Monitoring the operational performance of a network-based business service involves defining and detecting significant variances in activities associated with performance of the service. A business service is characterized by corresponding business rhythms, which are derived from patterns of metric values for business activities that are part of business processes corresponding to the business service. Each business rhythm is characterized as a set of statistics about the corresponding metric(s) classified for a period of time or over a group of multiple periods of time, statistically compressed, and persistently stored. For purposes of real-time monitoring of the operational performance of the business service, significant variances in the normal behavior of the business service are automatically detected by comparing real-time metric data with corresponding historical metric data, in view of associated threshold values.

Abstract:
Computer implemented methods and apparatus for determining availability information for a first one of a plurality of products for publication via a wide area network. The availability information is calculated with reference to a delivery date, an available number of units, and a reserved number of units, the delivery date having been specified by a user via the network, the available number of units having been determined with reference to inventory information, and the reserved number of units having been determined with reference to current order information.

Abstract:
Online fraud is reduced by identifying suspicious activities in real time and providing alerting so that interdiction may be performed. Historical customer behavior is used to identify and flag deviations in activity patterns. An HTTP data stream is parsed, intelligently filtered, and key data is extracted in real time. The key data is periodically extracted from network traffic and used to update corresponding summaries stored in a fraud data mart. The data mart is constantly incrementally updated so that the most current historical information is available to a rules engine for real time comparison with new customer data and patterns occurring on the network. Fraud-related business signatures are applied to this data stream and/or a data mart to identify suspicious online transactions. By understanding the customer session, the customer's intended use of the online application is derived and possible fraudulent activities identified.
