Abstract:
A hypertext protocol for Internet browsing applications includes hyperlinks that address traffic channels in a wireless system. Broadcast information content may be transmitted by the wireless system in one or more broadcast traffic channels. Multiple mobile stations may receive the broadcast information content simultaneously. Because the mobile stations share the broadcast traffic channels, a high throughput is achieved with proportionately less bandwidth being broadcast into a cell site.

Abstract:
The invention provides a system and method in which users may join a communication mode such that the multimedia content received by the user is closely matched to a predefined profile. The content may be transmitted by unicast, multicast or radio broadcast. Moreover, depending on an individuals request(s) and that of other users in a network, a user may switch between a radio broadcast, multicast and unicast to meet the users preferences based on a profile. Profile data may include content type, transmission quality, cost considerations, etc. The two-way nature of the system and method also enable a user to request and receive information and complete transactions.
A stream manager provides a way of redirecting and managing messaging and information access in a packet network environment. The stream manager can include a computer-based router or server that behaves as if it were a gateway for a sub-network of destination site servers, and the stream manager is linked to a packet network, such as the Internet. The stream manager receives over the packet network a message from a user's host server initiated by a user and intended for a destination site. The message bears an address for the stream manager which is provided to the host server by the address server for the packet network, such as a server utilized as part of the domain name system. The stream manager determines the availability of at least one destination server at the destination site to receive and process the message. If a destination server at the destination site is available to receive and process the message, the stream manager selects a destination server from those available, and initiates the routing of the message to the selected destination server. If a destination site is unavailable, the stream manager may report that to the host server, along with other information (such as customer care or promotional information).
System And Method For Providing Enhanced Persistent Communications
A system and method for providing persistent communications between users is disclosed whereby users can communicate in a real time fashion and/or in an offline or asynchronous manner within a persistent communications session without having to initiate a new session each time a user logs off or onto the communications session.

Method For Operating A Telephone System With At Least Two Telephony Terminals And A Telephony Terminal For Carrying Out The Method
Dirk Schlossecki - Heide, DE Michael GrĂ¼n - Ahrensburg, DE Stephan Stadler - Heusenstamm, DE James Farber - Rumson NJ, US Steven Greenspan - Scotch Plains NJ, US
A method for operating a telephone system with at least two telephony terminals to where, in addition to voice data or user data, functional data is transmitted by means of special functions of the telephone system, such as forwarding or holding established call connections. It shall be possible in a simple way for the user to handle even a relatively large multitude of special functions. For this purpose, according to the invention, an action key of a first telephony terminal, provided for triggering special functions is assigned the respective special function to be triggered, depending on its own status or the status of a second telephony terminal within the same team.

Abstract:
A novel mechanism is disclosed by which a sender can direct information such as an audiovisual signal to a particular recipient's audiovisual display device, such as a cable television set and, thereby, share information between the sender and the recipient. In one embodiment of the invention, a calling party originates a telephone call and associates that telephone call with audio-visual information that exists on the caller's personal computer or on an Internet server. The called party answers the call, and can tune an associated cable television to the appropriate channel in order to view the audio-visual information. In another embodiment, the caller is a hotel guest and the called party is a hotel concierge and vice versa. The concierge provides information to the hotel guest such that the hotel guest can tune in to a channel on their hotel television set and access the information.
