Preparation Of Components For Refinery Blending Of Transportation Fuels
A process is disclosed for the production of refinery transportation fuel or components for refinery blending of transportation fuels having a reduced amount of sulfur and/or nitrogen-containing impurities. The process involves contacting a hydrocarbon feedstock containing the above impurities with an immiscible phase containing hydrogen peroxide and acetic acid in an oxidation zone to selectively oxidize the impurities. After a gravity phase separation, the hydrocarbon phase containing any remaining oxidized impurities, is passed to an extraction zone wherein aqueous acetic acid is used to extract a portion of any remaining oxidized impurities. A hydrocarbon stream having reduced impurities can then be recovered. The acetic acid phase effluents from the oxidation and the extraction zones can then be passed to a common separation zone for recovery of the acetic acid and for optional recycle back to the oxidation and extraction zones.

Abstract:
Economical processes are disclosed for the production of components for refinery blending of transportation fuels by selective hydrogenation of sulfur-containing and/or nitrogen-containing organic compounds contained in mixtures of hydrocarbons which are liquid at ambient conditions. Integrated hydrotreating processes of this invention advantageously provide their own source of high-boiling hydrogenation feedstock derived, for example, by fractionation of hydrotreated petroleum distillates. The high-boiling hydrogenation feedstock consisting essentially of material boiling between about 200 C. and about 425 C. and having a sulfur content up to about 2,500 ppm, is contacted with a gaseous source of dihydrogen at hydrogenation conditions in the presence of a hydrogenation catalyst which exhibits a capability to enhance the incorporation of hydrogen into one or more of the sulfur-containing and/or nitrogen-containing organic compounds and under conditions suitable for hydrogenation of one or more of the sulfur-containing organic compounds, thereby producing a product comprising a mixture of hydrocarbons and other organic compounds and having a sulfur content less than about 35 ppm of sulfur. Advantageously, all or a portion of the product is blended with a low-boiling fraction of a hydrotreated distillate to produce a distillate fuel having a sulfur content of less than 15 ppm.

Abstract:
A process is disclosed for the ultradeep desulfurization of a sulfur-containing distillate feedstock. The hydrodesulfurization process conditions employed in the process of the invention include a hydrogen circulation rate of at least five times the molar consumption rate of hydrogen and a feedstock vaporization of at least 30 mole percent.

Abstract:
Effective quenching is provided in a catalytic cracking unit to increase product yield and decrease thermal cracking. Advantageously, the quench is injected at special locations. In the illustrated embodiment, the quench is injected into the oil product immediately downstream of the oil product exit of an internal gross cut separator in a disengaging vessel.
