Abstract:

A method and apparatus for managing recording of broadcast data is disclosed. In one embodiment, the invention includes providing the broadcast data to a video recording device and delaying the broadcast data that is provided to the video recording device sufficient to allow for the finding of an indicator and the transmitting of a command to the video recording device. The broadcast data is recorded using the video recording device and monitored for a commercial indicator and for a program indicator. If a commercial indicator is found, a command is transmitted to the video recording device to stop recording. If a commercial indicator is not found, recording continues. If a program indicator is found, a command is transmitted to the video recording device to resume recording and if a program indicator is not found, the recording stop continues.

A method and apparatus for authenticating entities to use an intelligent interactive Electronic Document Code stored in an RFID tag attached to a document as a means for third parties to ascertain a document is not counterfeit and has not been revoked or changed. In addition, such intelligent RFID tags can uniquely identify a particular document and data related to the document. A method and apparatus for authenticating currency and other important documents. A preferred embodiment may contain both a substrate, such as paper, and an embedded RFID transponder. An embedded RFID transponder or electronic watermark may contain multiple hierarchical layers of electronic passwords that are used to electronically protect the host currency from counterfeiting, or unauthorized modification. A method to associate the geographic location of a participant in a communications session, such as a phone call or an email transmission, is provided. The method may enable a virtual retail store or virtual point of sale, and may further comprise a virtual repository of information relating to transmitted messages, transactions and/or transaction requests. The participant is provided with a communications device, e.g., a cell phone, a personal digital assistant, or a personal computer, the device being optionally coupled with a GPS receiving circuit. The participant may use a password, an account number, a voice tag and/or an electronic signature as a record to confirm the participant's identity and co-location with the communications device substantially simultaneous with the communications session. The record may be stored for later review in the virtual repository. Alternatively, the location of a wireless communications device may be determined by radio signal direction finding equipment.
