Multifunctional Monomers And Their Use In Making Cross-Linked Polymers And Porous Films
This invention is a monomer comprising at least two dienophile groups and at least two ring structures which ring structures are characterized by the presence of two conjugated carbon-to-carbon double bonds and the presence of a leaving group L, wherein L is characterized that when the ring structure reacts with a dienophile in the presence of heat or other energy sources, L is removed to form an aromatic ring structure. This invention is also curable oligomers and polymers and highly cross-linked polymers made with such monomers. Moreover, this invention is a method of making porous films by combining such monomers or their oligomers with a porogen, curing the polymer and removing the porogen.

Abstract:
The present invention is a method of making cross-linked or cross-linkable polyarylenes comprising providing a reaction mixture comprising (a) a first monomer comprising at least two cyclic functional groups (b) a second monomer comprising at least two dienophile functional groups, and heating the reaction mixture to form a polymerized or partially polymerized polyarylene material, wherein at least one of the first or second monomers must comprise at least three functional groups. The cyclic groups in the first monomer are characterized by the presence of two conjugated carbon to carbon double bonds and a leaving group, L, selected from -0-, —S—, —(SO)—, —N═N—, or —O(CO)—. The present invention is also the partially polymerized reaction product of the above method. Finally, the present invention is also specific difunctional diene monomers useful in such a method.

3,4,N-triaryl-4,5-dihydro-1H-pyrazole-1-carboxamide compounds having an aryl moiety in the 4-position that is an optionally substituted pyridinyl, pyrimidinyl, pyridazinyl, pyrazinyl, or quinolinyl moiety and aryl moieties in the 3-position and the N-position that are optionally substituted phenyl, pyridinyl, pyrimidinyl, pyridazinyl, pyrazinyl, or quinolinyl moieties, such as N-(4-chlorophenyl)-4,5- -dihydro-3-(4-fluorophenyl)-4-(5-trifluoromethyl-2- -pyridinyl)-1H-pyrazole-1-carboxamide, were prepared and found to possess insecticidal utility. 1,2-Diarylethanone compounds were converted to 1,2-diaryl-2-propen-1-one compounds by treatment with bis(dimethylamino)methane, the 1,2-diaryl-2-propen-1-one compounds were converted to 3,4-diaryl-4,5-dihydro-1H-pyrazole compounds by treatment with hydrazine, and the 3,4-diaryl-4,5-dihydro-1H-pyrazole compounds were converted to the insecticidal subject compounds by treatment with an aryl isocyanate.
