A gripper bar conveyor mechanism for transferring sheets to be printed from one rotating impression cylinder to another in a multiple color rotary offset printer of the type having sets of impression cylinders and corresponding blanket cylinders for rolling contact with the sheets to be printed therebetween. The gripper bar conveyor mechanism includes a transferrable gripper bar activatable for releasably securing sheets to be printed in a fixed orientation with respect to the transferrable gripper bar. The registration projection is affixed to the transferrable gripper bar. A registration pocket is adjustably affixed to each of the impression cylinders for temporarily receiving the registration projection of the gripper bar and thereby holding the gripper bar in a desired position with respect to the impression cylinder. A conveyor band is attached to the gripper bar and is operably connected to the rotary offset press for moving the gripper bar from one impression cylinder to the next. The registration projection is engaged in the registration pocket at each of the impression cylinders during a portion of the impression cylinder rotation which is sufficient to initialize rolling contact of the sheet to be printed in proper registration between the impression cylinder and the corresponding blanket cylinder at each set of impression and blanket cylinders.
Self-Metering Dampening System For A Lithographic Press
A dampening system for a lithographic press in which a train of rollers delivers dampening fluid from a dampening fluid pan to the plate cylinder of the lithographic press is provided. The train of rollers comprises a hard rubber pan roller, a rubber transfer roller of medium hardness, and a relatively soft rubber water form roller. The transfer roller is mounted in parallel relation to the pan roller and can be moved towards or away from the pan roller in order to vary the pressure therebetween and to thus meter the dampening fluid delivered to the plate cylinder. Dampening fluid is conveyed from the pan roller, to the transfer roller, to the water form roller, and finally to the plate cylinder. The pan roller and water form roller are driven at the surface speed of the plate cylinder through a gear train.
Ink Receptive Dampening System For Lithographic Printing Press
An apparatus for continuously providing dampening fluid to a plate cylinder of a lithographic printing press includes a frame operatively connected to the printing press. A dampening fluid reservoir is attached. A pan roller is rotatably mounted in the frame and is disposed in contact with dampening fluid in the dampening fluid reservoir. A transfer roller set tangentially contacts and is parallel to the pan roller. The transfer roller is rotated by friction from the pan roller which is driven at a rotation speed proportional to the speed of the plate cylinder. An ink receptive oscillating roller having a porous and compressible surface is tangentially contacting and parallel to the transfer roller. The oscillating roller is gear driven at a rotational speed proportional to the speed of the plate cylinder. A water form roller is rotatably mounted in the frame tangentially contacting and in a parallel relation to both the plate cylinder and the porous surface of the ink receptive oscillating roller for carrying an even metered layer of water from the oscillating roller to the plate cylinder.
A metering roller engages a liquid pickup roller to meter liquid through the nip therebetween. A stationary shaft through the middle of the metering roller carries spaced bearings at adjustable locations engaging the inside of the roller. A fulcrum is provided to support the stationary shaft near each end thereof. A forcing cam spaced inwardly from each fulcrum has an adjustable pivot point, and is forced into engagement with the stationary shaft to produce bending moments in the shaft transmitted to the roller through the bearings to bias the metering roller toward the metering nip. The position of each fulcrum may be adjusted in two directions, and the magnitude of the bending moments adjusted by moving the forcing cam pivot point.
Printing Plate Register System, Device, And Method
A printing plate registration device, system, and method of the type for replaceably holding a printing plate in proper registration on a plate cylinder for use in an offset printing pres. The registration device includes tapered registration pins affixed to the plate cylinder in registration alignment. The tapered pins have a base which is sized for interference fit with registration holes formed in the replaceable printing plate. A clamp is attached for replaceably holding the printing plate into rigid interference fit around the base of each of the tapered registration pins.
A second color print head attachment for an offset duplicator including a plate cylinder carrier 20 and an inker carrier 70 arranged to be pivotally secured to a side frame 11 of an offset duplicator press 10. A first pair of register pins 100 and 102 mounted on the inker carrier 70 are received in openings 21 and 23 formed in the plate cylinder carrier 20 for detachably securing inker form rollers 75, 76, and 77 in engagement with the printing plate 35. A pair of rollers 64 and 66 on the plate cylinder carrier 20 extend into guide slots 54 and 56 in a mounting bracket 50 secured to the duplicator press frame 12. The lock-up mounting bracket 50 and the hinge mounting bracket 40 are pivotally secured to the duplicator press frames for rotation by an eccentric actuator 110, 115 for moving the printing plate 35 into engagement with the blanket cylinder 16 in the duplicator press 10. The inker carriage 70 and the plate cylinder carriage 20 can be swung away from the blanket 16 of the duplicator press either separately or in combination.
Gripper Bar Conveyor For Multiple Color Offset Rotary Printing Press

The registration projection is affixed to the transferrable gripper bar. A registration pocket is adjustably affixed to each of the impression cylinders for temporarily receiving the registration projection of the gripper bar and thereby holding the gripper bar in a desired position with respect to the impression cylinder.
