A preferred material is coke.
  • Process For Disposing Of Sewage Sludge

    view source
  • US Patent:
    52924424, Mar 8, 1994
  • Filed:
    Oct 1, 1992
  • Appl. No.:
    7/955007
  • Inventors:
Harvey D. Schindler - Fair Lawn NJ
Christine C. Albert - Peekskill NY
Stephan J. DeCanio - Montgomery NY
  • Assignee:
Texaco Inc. - White Plains NY
  • International Classification:
    B01D 3700
  • US Classification:
    210770
  • Abstract:
A process for disposing of sanitary sewage sludge by producing a pumpable slurry of sewage sludge with or without solid carbonaceous fuel and burning said slurry as fuel in a partial oxidation gas generator, furnace, or boiler. The aqueous slurry of sewage sludge is concentrated by removing water by means of a conventional belt filter press, centrifuge, or hydroclone. The dewatered slurry of sewage sludge is heated by direct contact with steam while air and organic vapors are simultaneously removed, to reduce the pressure in the system; hydrothermally treated in two steps with indirect and direct heat exchange with steam; dewatered by flash evaporation and centrifuging; and burned with or without admixture with solid carbonaceous fuel in a partial oxidation gasifier, furnace, boiler, or incinerator to produce synthesis gas or a hot raw effluent gas stream. In a preferred embodiment, the effluent gas stream is cleaned and purified and non-contaminating ash and slag are separated. By this process, noxious sewage sludge may be disposed of without contaminating the environment.
  • Hydrotreating Catalyst

  • Stripping Ammonia From Liquid Effluent Of A Hydrodenitrification Process

    view source
  • US Patent:
    40595030, Nov 22, 1977
  • Filed:
    Aug 5, 1976
  • Appl. No.:
    5/712088
  • Inventors:
Morgan C. Sze - Upper Montclair NJ
Harvey D. Schindler - Fairlawn NJ

  • Assignee:
The Lummus Company - Bloomfield NJ
  • International Classification:
    C10G 2302
  • US Classification:
    208254H
  • Abstract:
A nitrogen containing feedstock is hydrodenitrified by passing the feed through at least two hydrodenitrification zones, with ammonia produced in the hydrodenitrification being purged from the system prior to the last hydrodenitrification zone to maintain a low ammonia partial pressure in the last hydrodenitrification zone. The ammonia is preferably purged by stripping ammonia from the liquid portion of the effluent withdrawn from the next to last hydrodenitrification zone. Improved denitrification is obtained by maintaining a low ammonia partial pressure in the last hydrodenitrification zone.
