Abstract:
A Fresnel Annular Sector Actuator (FASA) for micromixing of fluids, utilizes a self-focusing acoustic wave transducer which focuses acoustic waves through constructive wave interference. In the transducer, RF power is applied between the electrodes (sandwiching a piezoelectric film) with its frequency preferably corresponding to the thickness mode resonance of the piezoelectric film. Strong acoustic waves are generated over the electrode area, and interfere with each other as they propagate in the fluid. By proper design of the electrodes, and forming various combinations of the electrodes, wave focusing can be achieved. The mixing can be further enhanced by providing selective actuation and sequencing of the different segments by an RF signal source.

Abstract:
Sensorless fuel level and oil change indicators are provided in a range extender for an electric vehicle. The range extender includes an engine, and an electric generating device driven by the engine to generate electric power supplied to the vehicle. The fuel level is calculated based on the generated power. The oil change indicator indicates that the oil should be changed when the number of engine rotor revolutions exceeds a threshold value. The electric generating device may be a dynamoelectric machine coupled to the engine by a shaft to operate as a motor for starting the engine. In response to prescribed engine conditions, the dynamoelectric machine is switched to operate as a generator driven by the engine to generate the electric energy.

Abstract:
A MEMS silicon inertial sensor formed of a mass that is supported and constrained to vibrate in only specified ways. The sensors can be separately optimized from the support, to adjust the sensitivity separate from the bandwidth. The sensor can sense three dimensionally, or can only sense in a single plane. Vibration cancellation may be provided.
A device for sculpting the fingernail comprising a block having a front surface, a first side surface, and a second side surface. A layer of first sandpaper is placed on the front surface of the block, and a layer of second sandpaper placed on the first side surface. A layer of third sandpaper is placed on the second side surface. The first, second, and third sandpapers each have a different grit size from the other sandpapers. Also, the first side surface is curved inward to form a concave arch, and the second side surface is curved inward to form a concave arch.

Abstract:
Concentric bipolar electrode sensors and assemblies provide for and/or facilitate detection and diagnosis of the non-obstructive and pro-inflammatory atherosclerotic lesions in human arteries during catheterization using electrochemical impedance spectroscopy (EIS). Fabrication techniques for concentric bipolar electrode sensors are also described.

Abstract:
A toxin immobilization particle and method of fabrication is provided that includes a polysulfide-rubber polymer coated activated carbon particle that provides enhanced toxin adsorption. A porous activated carbon particle have a size range up to 2 mm is used. The polysulfide-rubber polymer coated activated carbon particle includes a polymer-dose range of up to 1.64 grams of sulfur per gram of activated carbon particles, where the toxins can include mercury, PCBs, chlorinated pesticides or polycyclic aromatic hydrocarbons. The method of forming the toxin immobilization particle includes condensing a polymer in a sulfide mixture to form a polysulfide-rubber polymer compound and coating an activated carbon particle with the polysulfide-rubber polymer. The levels of sulfur loading in the toxin immobilization particles are controlled by the polymer dose during the coating process, where the polysulfide polymer coated activated carbon particle provides enhanced toxin adsorption.

Abstract:
Embodiments herein describe an integrated circuit that includes a NoC with at least two levels of switching: a sparse network and a non-blocking network. In one embodiment, the non-blocking network is a localized interconnect that provides an interface between the sparse network in the NoC and a memory system that requires additional bandwidth such as HBM2/3 or DDR5. Hardware elements connected to the NoC that do not need the additional benefits provided by the non-blocking network can connect solely to the sparse network. In this manner, the NoC provides a sparse network (which has a lower density of switching elements) for providing communication between lower bandwidth hardware elements and a localized non-blocking network for facilitating communication between the sparse network and higher bandwidth hardware elements.
