Abstract:
A method and system for managing metadata residing in multiple information sources are described. In one embodiment, the method includes providing a user interface that represents a single point for user access to source metadata residing in source metadata repositories maintained by various data management applications. The method also includes creating extended metadata that contains additional information about the source metadata, and storing the extended metadata in an extended metadata repository. The method further includes enabling a user to view, via the single access point, the source metadata residing in the source metadata repositories and the extended metadata residing in the extended metadata repository.

Abstract:
A method and apparatus for obtaining metadata from multiple information sources in real time are described. According to one aspect, the method includes receiving a user request pertaining to one or more of source metadata objects residing in multiple source metadata repositories. Each source metadata repository is maintained by a specific data management application. The method further includes responding to the user request in real time by identifying a data management application that corresponds to the source metadata objects associated with the user request and retrieving the source metadata objects using an application program interface (API) with the corresponding data management application.

Abstract:
A system and method are provided for content-based non-linear control of video data playback. A multimedia database having multimedia data including multimedia content data is searched based on a user query to determine a first set of multimedia data. The multimedia data includes indexes to and condensed representations of corresponding video data stored in a video database. A portion of the first set of multimedia data is displayed at a control device in response to the user query. A user of the control device selects an element of the first set of multimedia data for video playback and video data corresponding to the element delivered to a video device for playback. A user of the control device selects an element of the first set of multimedia data for additional information and a second set of multimedia data corresponding to the element delivered to the control device.
High-Intensity-Discharge Lamp Of The Mercury-Metal Halide Type Which Efficiently Illuminates Objects With Excellent Color Appearance

International Classification:

US Classification:

Abstract:
High-intensity-discharge lamp of the mercury-metal halide type efficiently illuminates objects with excellent color appearance. The arc tube filling comprises the usual inert, ionizable starting gas and mercury in predetermined amount as required to provide a predetermined operating voltage drop between the lamp electrodes. The metal halide filling substantially comprises a predetermined limited amount of thallous iodide, a predetermined limited amount of stannous iodide and a predetermined limited amount of calcium iodide. The stannous iodide is used in such amount that it serves primarily to enhance the emission of the calcium iodiode and the amount of stannous iodide is sufficiently limited to curtail the generation of the characteristic continuous tin emission. The calcium iodide is present in greater gram amount than the tin iodide so that the effects of the calcium iodide emission are predominant. The resulting discharge has its emission concentrated in three selected wavelength portions of the visible spectrum, namely, blue violet which is due primarily to the calcium iodide emission, green which is due to the thallium iodide emission, and red which is due to the tin-iodide-enhanced calcium iodide emission.

Abstract:
Method and apparatus for expressing as a number the relative brightness of artificial illumination as it is perceived by the average observer. There is extracted (i. e. , detected) from the illumination to be measured, a blue-appearing narrow band, a green-appearing narrow band, a yellow-appearing narrow band and a red-orange-appearing narrow band. From these extracted bands are generated six different signals: a signal expressed as (aB) where (a) is about 0. 23 and (B) is the watts of energy in the blue band, a signal expressed as (bG) where (b) is about 0. 97 and (G) is the watts of energy in the green band, a signal expressed as (cR) where (c) is about 0. 33 and (R) is the watts of energy in the red-orange band, a signal expressed as (dY) where (d) is about 0. 19 and (Y) is the watts of energy in the yellow band, a signal expressed as (eG) where (e) is about 0. 25 and (G) is the watts of energy in the green band, and a signal expressed as (fR) where (f) is about 0.

Abstract:
Sensing the electric or strain field experienced by a sample containing a crystal host comprising of solid state defects under a zero-bias magnetic field can yield a very sensitive measurement. Sensing is based on the spin states of the solid-state defects. Upon absorption of suitable microwave (and optical) radiation, the solid-state defects emit fluorescence associated with hyperfine transitions. The fluorescence is sensitive to electric and/or strain fields and is used to determine the magnitude and/or direction of the field of interest. The present apparatus is configured to control and modulate the assembly of individual components to maintain a zero-bias magnetic field, generate an Optically Detected Magnetic Resonance (ODMR) spectrum (with or without optical excitation) using appropriate microwave radiation, detect signals based on the hyperfine state transitions that are sensitive to electric/strain fields, and to quantify the magnitude and direction of the field of interest.

Abstract:
Systems, apparatus, and methods for collecting, interpreting, and utilizing noise exposure data may include sensors to obtain an analog signal representative of impulse noise sound pressure and an analog signal representative of continuous noise sound pressure. At least one ADC may generate digital signals by sampling the analog signals at rates equal to or greater than twice the reciprocal of a minimum impulse noise rise time. Accelerometers may obtain data in close proximity to and remote from the sensors. At least one processor may include a first combining node to combine the digital signals to represent both the continuous noise and the impulse noise, a shock-artifact detection filter to identify a time frame including a shock artifact based on the accelerometry data, a frequency filter to generate a background-removed audio signal, an adaptive filter to estimate the shock artifact, and a second combining node to produce a shock-artifact-free audio signal.
