Abstract:

A surface plasmon high efficiency HDTV projector employs voltage-induced color-selective absorption with surface plasmons at metal/liquid crystal interface. When a collimated p-polarized white light (9) is incident at metal (2) and liquid crystal (6) interface, surface plasmon resonance can be excited, certain frequencies of photons will be absorbed without reflection, and the reflected light shows the complementary color. This resonance frequency depends on the dielectric constant of both the metal film and the liquid crystal. If a voltage (8) is applied on the liquid crystal (6) to change its dielectric constant, then the absorption spectrum can be controlled by this voltage. When the p-polarized white light is reflected three times at three interfaces which are set a surface plasmon resonance at blue, green and red respectively, any color can be generated by switching these resonances. Because this device only takes the unwanted colors out of the spectrum, the wanted color almost all pass through, the optical efficiency of this device is very high.

Abstract:

Certain embodiments involve techniques for automatically identifying sounds in an audio recording that match a selected sound. An audio search and editing system receives the audio recording and preprocesses the audio recording into audio portions. The audio portions are provided as a query to the neural network that includes a trained embedding model used to analyze the audio portions in view of the selected sound to estimate feature vectors. The audio search and editing system compares the feature vectors for the audio portions against the feature vector for the selected sound and the feature vector for the negative samples to generate an audio score that is a numerical representation of the level of similarity between the audio portion and the selected sound and uses the audio scores to classify the audio portions into a first class of matching sounds and a second class of non-matching sounds.

Abstract:

DNA-coated colloids are introduced that can rearrange and anneal using single-stranded DNA coatings with thicknesses that are smaller than the colloidal particles, and with areal densities 5—than previously achieved. Micrometer-sized colloidal particles, such as poly(styrene), poly(methylmethacrylate) (PMMA), silica and titania, and 3-(trimethoxysilyl)propyl methacrylate (TPM), are coated with DNA by strain-promoted alkyne-azide cycloaddition. This enables growth of large colloidal crystals from a wide range of micrometer-sized DNA-coated colloids. When quenched from above to below the melting temperature, the rate of crystal formation exhibits the familiar maximum for intermediate temperature quenches observed in metallic alloys, but over a temperature range smaller by two orders of magnitude, owing to the highly temperature-sensitive diffusion between aggregated DNA-coated colloids.

A method and articles of manufacture for creating colloidal clusters and functionalized patchy particles. The method includes selecting at least one type of colloidal particle, functionalizing a patch of the colloidal particle and mixing a plurality of the colloidal particles to construct a cluster with particular desired geometries properties based on the bonding of the colloidal particles by virtue of the patch having bond-type characteristic analogous to, but not limited to atomic orbitals and other symmetries.
