A stand for supporting a musical instrument, the stand comprising a front frame subassembly, a base frame subassembly, and a rear frame subassembly. These subassemblies are hinged and clipped together to form a self-supporting stand that supports the front frame subassembly with a rearwardly leaning planar front face. A bracket near the foot of the front frame subassembly carries most of the weight of the musical instrument supported by the stand, the remaining instrument weight being carried by the planar front face of the front frame subassembly. At least the top of the front frame subassembly is wider and higher than the width and height of the upper end of the musical instrument, and this protects the musical instrument against being dislodged from the stand by direct impacts from above, the side or the rear. The instrument stand is lightweight and easily collapsible for transport. Constructional details of the frame and joints are given, and decorative forms are also described. The instrument stand is of particular utility for protecting guitars, cellos, and other instruments with similarly extended necks. The stand can also be utilized as an impact-protective display stand.
Flexible Display Screen Arrangements And Applications Thereof
This document describes the design and control of a flexible, electronic display screen mechanism. The display may emit, reflect, or otherwise control visible and invisible light such that a viewer may see graphical shapes, text based characters, or time varying images on the screen. The flexibility of the display screen allows it to be physically bent, curved, wrapped, or molded without causing breakage or otherwise deteriorating the performance of the device. This flexibility allows these displays to be used, for example, within items of clothing.
This document describes the design and control of a modular wearable electronic system that integrates an electrical interconnection harness, human body electrode modules, physiological sensor modules, electronic circuit modules, control software, and power supply modules into a single assembly. The design is intended to allow medical sensors and electronic circuits from different manufacturers to be connected into the system with relative ease. This system will enable a platform that can be expanded to incorporate many different kinds of physiological sensors and electronic circuits as and when they become available. It will also allow for different sizes of wearable electronic system to be constructed by simply changing the lengths and shapes of the electrical interconnections between the electrical modules.
A wearable display device is described that allows the image from a semi-transparent display screen placed close to the eye to be correctly focused onto the retina while simultaneously allowing the image from the external environment to pass through the device without significant aberration. Focus of the display screen image is achieved through use of a micro-lens array between the screen and the eye, and a separate set of micro-lens arrays on the distant side of the screen in conjunction with the micro-lens array on the near side of the screen allows the external environmental image to pass through. In this manner images from the display screens can overlay the eye's usual view of the external environment. Use of micro-lens arrays that have dynamically adjustable focus properties allow for simulated three-dimensional images and corrective optics for far- or near-sightedness.
This document describes the design of an articulated artificial skin that may be used to cover any three dimensional surface that changes morphology with time. In one embodiment the skin is made from individual four sided pyramids arranged to bend about their edges. Each pyramid may contain a solid, liquid, gas, or plasma, or any relevant technology such as solar panels and rechargeable batteries. Each pyramid may be connected to neighboring pyramids via tubes, pipes, or electrical wires to allow the flow of fluids and/or electricity. Multi layers of the artificial skin may be used to provide features such as pressure garments, cooling garments, thermal barriers, and armor shielding suitable for use in extreme environments.
