Abstract:

A structural/biological implant and method of use. The implant being utilized as a single or multiple staged system that is designed to encourage new alveolar bone growth with or without the need to obtain autologous bone. The implant has an apical portion that is fastened into existing bone, with the remainder of the implant left outside of existing bone. The exposed portion of the implant may have an external shape or configuration with a variety of attached and/or integrally formed mechanical retention and stability elements. Osteotropic/angiotropic material may be associated with the implant to induce and or conduct new bone growth and possible vascularization, thus, rather than fitting the implant into the bone, the bone is grown integratively with the implant.

Abstract:

A novel method of making an easy-open can end closure for insuring better control over the integrity of the closure, especially in tougher sheet metal such as steel, comprises the steps, after forming and longitudinally scoring-to-fracture the closure, of (a) providing a swageable strip of the metal extending along an edge of the line of fracture and overlying that edge, and (b) then swaging and dilating that strip radially into more intimate overlapping relation to the line of fracture to cause it to tightly close.

Abstract:

A new sequence of steps provides more control in the formation in sheet metal of weakening lines of the type characterized by an integral yet fractured section. Basically, the method employs, in making so-called easy-open can ends, for example: 1. peripherally forming a closure in the sheet metal; 2. coining or scoring a profile surface of the closure, not to the depth required for fracture, but to establish residuum thickness along the desired line; 3. next, overforming the closure at least in part to controllably fracture the residuum along that coined line; and 4. lastly, swaging to seal or tighten edges of the fractured section.

In a hot melt glue dispensing gun, apparatus is constructed to feed a flexible rod of glue to a heated melt chamber. This apparatus includes two motor driven gears which engage the glue rod and feed the glue to the melt chamber. Abstract:

A logic data control system including a first-in-first-out (FIFO) buffer predictor is provided for the transfer of data between a main memory unit and a peripheral control unit of a data processing system. Data from main memory is stored into the input registers of the peripheral unit, and thereafter loaded into an array of data FIFOs for transfer to a peripheral storage device. A predictor FIFO operates in parallel with the data FIFOs, and is loaded with a dummy or flag byte each time a data request is made to main memory. When a data word is loaded into the data FIFOs, the input register of the predictor FIFO is sensed. If the flag byte in the predictor FIFO has dropped from the input register into the FIFO stack, a request is issued to main memory for an additional data word. When the data FIFOs are filled, the predictor FIFO also is filled and cannot generate an additional data request until a data byte has been unloaded from the data FIFOs to a peripheral storage device. The input register to the predictor FIFO thereupon is emptied, and another data request may be made to main memory.

Abstract:

A can having a closure defined at least in part by a rupturable weakening line is provided with a finger-movable tab-like tool for safely opening the closure. The tool is a sheet metal lever pivotally attached to a can end in which the closure is deflectible and preferably non-severable. A depressor portion of the lever is raised from its prone or inoperative position and, in part, twisted about 90. degree. to locate its pressure-directing beak adjacent to a point along the weakening line, whereupon downward finger pressure on the depressor portion disrupts the line and deflects the closure inwardly. The lever is so shaped that depression of the twistable portion is limited by engagement therewith of an edge of the opening thus barring finger entry into the can opening as a safety measure. The lever may be provided at its opposite end with a handle whereby, when the closure has been opened as explained, the lever may be swung to clear the depressed end portion substantially from the can opening.

Abstract:

In a data processing system wherein a plurality of functional units are interconnected by way of a common communication bus in an environment of high data transfer rates, a logic control system is provided for interjecting firmware control during a data transfer between a disk device and main memory to accommodate unsolicited bus requests without incurring data errors or compromising the data transfer rate. Data transferred between the disk device and a disk controller interfacing directly with the common bus is routed through a FIFO (first-in-first-out) buffer under hardware control. The buffer signals the absence of data in its input register and the presence of data in its output register. The signals are logically combined and ANDed with a firmware controlled logic gate to indicate the occurrence of data transfer states. During such transfer states, data is transferred under hardware control between the FIFO buffer and main memory.

Abstract:

An apparatus for automatically supplying electrical components from a series of tubular holders held in a cassette to the magazine of an electrical component assembly machine. The apparatus is carried on a channel base movable from a position with the cassette over the workstation to a position with the cassette remote from the workstation. The components are released from the cassette down a chute to the workstation, the chute having a stop member releasable when the channel base is moved to prevent the release of components from the chute. A component presence reader is located in the chute and is disposed at an acute angle to the chute vertical axis to obtain an accurate reading of the presence or absence of a component in the chute.
