Abstract:
The present invention provides a speed governor () suitable for use in a fluid driven down-hole tool (). The speed governor comprises an actuator () operatively coupled to a motive fluid flow control valve (). The actuator is and arranged so as to be activatable, directly or indirectly, in response to the running speed of the tool (), for opening of the control valve () with increasing rotational speed of the motor () above a predetermined speed limit thereby to limit the rotational speed of the downhole tool ().

Abstract:
The present invention provides a down-hole tool guide apparatus suitable for use in controlling movement of a down-hole apparatus provided with a pressurised working fluid supply in a borehole P. The apparatus comprises: a body having a chamber in which is slidably mounted a piston A high pressure end of the chamber is connected to the pressurised working fluid supply for supplying pressurised working fluid to a high pressure side of said piston A low pressure end of the chamber is connected with the outside of the guide apparatus and is provided with a spring for applying a biasing force to the low pressure side of the piston corresponding to a predetermined threshold pressure of the pressurised fluid supply at the high pressure side of the piston The body mounts at least one shoe having an engagement face The piston is operatively coupled to a shoe displacement mechanism so that the shoe is held in a stowed position when the piston is urged towards the high pressure end of the chamber by the spring and is displaced outwardly so that the engagement face projects outwardly of the body when the piston is displaced towards the low pressure end of the chamber by supply of pressurised working fluid at a pressure higher than said threshold pressure.
Method Of Employing A Coated Elastomeric Packing Element
This invention relates to a method for achieving a seal by an expandable packing element having a generally tubular configuration and being fabricated from elastomeric material adapted to be utilized in conjunction with a packer apparatus within a well bore conduit during the completion or workover of a subterranean oil or gas well. Preferably the packing element is formed from a resilient elastomeric material such as ethylene propylene diene monomer adapted to withstand elevated temperatures and high pressures in subterranean wells. The tubular body member has an imperforate protective coating at least over its exterior surfaces, the coating being resistant to exposure to steam and hydrocarbons at elevated temperatures for extended periods for protection of the body member prior to its controlled expansion into well sealing relation, said coating becoming imperforate by said expansion.

Abstract:
A drilling motor has been developed with a hollow tubular stator having at least one rod recess therein and an inlet port therethrough corresponding to each of the at least one rod recess; a rod movably disposed in each of the at least one rod recess; a tubular rotor movably disposed within the stator for rotation therein, the tubular rotor having a central motive fluid flow channel therethrough and extending along the length of the rotor, the rotor having one or more radial exhaust flow channels therethrough for providing a motive fluid flow path to the central motive fluid flow channel from at least one action chamber between the hollow tubular stator and tubular rotor; the tubular rotor having at least one rotor seal; and the at least one action chamber defined by an interior surface of the hollow tubular stator and an exterior surface of the tubular rotor, each of the at least one action chamber sealed at one end by the rod and at another end by one of the at least one rotor seals. A rotor has been developed with a central motive fluid flow channel and one or more radial flow channels interconnected therewith for fluid to flow from action chambers, e. g. action chambers between the rotor and a stator of a drilling motor.
A valve having a rotary valve head with an elastomeric seal attached to the valve head for use in a conduit is disclosed. Separate embodiments for use in a downhole tool and in an accessible surface valve are disclosed. An axially movable actuator tube is engagable with the elastomeric seal to maintain sealing integrity. A valve head with an integrally mounted seal can be actuated by an axially movable camming member or by a lever pivoting about an axis transverse to the conduit. Rotation of the valve head from the closed position aligns a flow passage with the conduit to permit fluid flow.

Abstract:
A sealing assembly for effecting the sealing of an annulus between two telescopically related tubular conduits, of the type employed in subterranean wells, is achieved by utilizing annular seal backup elements dieformed from a knitted wire mesh by two successive dieforming steps. In the first dieforming, the knitted mesh backup element is formed to an external diameter equal to or preferably exceeding the maximum diameter that will be required for the backup member to assume when expanded into engagement with the outer wall of the annulus to be sealed. The second dieforming operation reduces the external diameter of the annular knitted mesh seal backup element to a dimension less than the outer wall of the annulus to be sealed, thus permitting convenient assembly and run-in of the sealing assemblage. The two step dieforming operation significantly reduces the amount of axial compressive force required to expand the sealing elements and the seal backup members to their sealed position.

Abstract:
There is disclosed a fluid driven motor of particular use, for example, in drilling apparatus or in powering underwater excavation apparatus. Known motors suffer from a number of problems, e. g. lack of sufficient hydraulic efficiency. According to one aspect of the present invention there is provided a motor comprising a stator and a rotor rotatably mounted in the stator, wherein the stator is provided with at least one rod recess formed in an inner surface thereof, the stator providing at least one inlet/exhaust port communicating between a surface of the rod recess and an outer surface of the stator, the rotor is provided with a rotor channel and at least one channel for conducting motive fluid from the rotor channel to a chamber between the rotor and the stator, and the at least one rod recess is provided with a rod which, in use, may form a seal between the stator and the rotor.

Some compare him to guys like Gary Harris or Victor Oladipo, but Edgecombe brings more to the table as a playmaker, kind of like Cason Wallace. That combo of on-ball and off-ball sk
