    B01J008/02
  • US Classification:
    048/198700, 048/1970FM, 048/127900, 422/195000, 422/211000, 422/190000
  • Abstract:
A tubular fuel gas-steam reformer assembly, preferably an autothermal reformer assembly, for use in a fuel cell power plant, includes a fuel-steam vaporizer, a fuel-steam and air mixing station, and a catalyst bed. The catalyst bed can include catalyzed alumina pellets, or a monolith such as a foam or honeycomb body which is preferably formed from a high temperature material such as a steel alloy, or from a ceramic material. The fuel-steam mixture is vaporized in the vaporizer and then passes into the mixing station. The mixing station comprises a plurality of mixing tubes which open into the catalyst bed. The mixing tubes extend through a manifold and include openings which interconnect the interior of the tubes with the manifold. The openings have axes which are perpendicular to the axis of each of the mixing tubes, and are positioned on the tubes at locations which are dictated by the diameter of the mixing tubes and which will ensure thorough mixing of the air and fuel-steam streams. A preferred mode of operation involves introducing the fuel-steam stream into the mixing tubes from the vaporizer and feeding the air into the manifold. The p between the air supply and the fuel-steam stream is relatively small.
  • Piloting Igniter For Supersonic Combustor

    view source
  • US Patent:
    48215120, Apr 18, 1989
  • Filed:
    May 5, 1987
  • Appl. No.:
    7/046072
  • Inventors:
Roy N. Guile - Wethersfield CT
William T. Peschke - Manchester CT
  • Assignee:
United Technologies Corporation - Hartford CT
  • International Classification:
    F02K 710
    F02C 7264
  • US Classification:
    602701
  • Abstract:
A piloting fuel injector assembly for a supersonic ramjet engine has a cowl 24, 70 confining a pilot air portion of the airstream. A conical member 34, 74 produces a subsonic recirculation zone 30, 76 and a shock wave falling within the cowl. Pilot fuel injected 40, 82 upstream of the recirculation zone burns stoichiometrically. The exhaust 38, 86 from the cowl is sonic, producing a shock wave which facilitates ignition of the main fuel injected 46, 84 upstream of the cowl exhaust.
  • Air Sterilization And Disinfection Method

    view source
  • US Patent:
    20150078960, Mar 19, 2015
  • Filed:
    Oct 29, 2014
  • Appl. No.:
    14/527449
  • Inventors:
Mark D. Krosney - Port St. Lucie FL, US
William O.T. Peschke - Manchester CT, US
William E. Reisenaur - Commack NY, US
  • International Classification:
    A61L 9/20
  • US Classification:
    422 4
  • Abstract:
An apparatus ( and/or ) and corresponding method () for air sterilization and disinfection can include an electronics and control module ( and/or ), a means for drawing air from the surrounding environment into the apparatus ( and/or ), an air management chamber ( and/or ), and a housing ( and/or ). The means for drawing air from the surrounding environment into the apparatus ( and/or ) mobilizes latent pathogens in the environment and draws them into the apparatus ( and/or ) for sterilization and disinfection. The air management chamber ( and/or ) provides for exposure of the airborne pathogens to UV radiation, via UV LEDs ( and/or ), with a dosage sufficient to penetrate the cell walls and destroy the pathogens. The electronics and control module ( and/or ) powers the apparatus ( and/or ) and interfaces with the electronic components. The housing () forms the outer shell of the apparatus ().
