Abstract:

This invention relates to the preparation of dodecahydrododecaborate (2-) anions and particularly to the preparation of alkali metal dodecahydrododecaborates such as Na. sub. 2 B. sub. 12 H. sub. 12. The process of the invention involves the reaction of an alkali metal borohydride with dimethylsulfideborane, at a temperature and for a time sufficient, to yield the alkali metal dodecahydrododecaborate. The reaction may be conducted at atmospheric pressure.

Abstract:

A gutter system for a swimming pool of the type having side walls and a gutter extending along the top of the side walls around the periphery of the swimming pool, characterized in that the gutter is formed from integral sections molded from non-metallic material and joined end-to-end by flexible, water-tight gaskets. Each integral gutter section has a front wall facing the swimming pool, a bottom wall resting on the top of the side walls of the swimming pool, and a back wall which preferably has a vertical extension thereon rising above the gutter and forming a break-water between the gutter and an elevated concrete deck. Slotted, removable cover sections are fitted over the gutter and extend between the upper edge of the front wall of the gutter and an integral flange formed on the back wall of the gutter. Advantageously, a water supply conduit is disposed in the gutter beneath the cover sections and is connected to water nozzle assemblies extending through the front wall of the gutter which feed water into the pool.

Abstract:

A bath for the electroless deposition of palladium boron comprises an aqueous solution of divalent palladium, ammonia or amine, and a tertiary amine borane. The bath may contain thio-organic, iminonitrile or other stabilizers. A hard palladium alloy is plated, having the composition of 1-3% amorphous borone, 1-3% crystalline PdH. sub. 706, the remainder amorphous palladium. A strong laminate is formed when the alloy is plated on electroless nickel.

Abstract:

Apparatus to maintain the desired water level in a swimming pool includes a stilling chamber receiving pool water from an equalizer pipe connected to the pool essentially below the desired water level. The stilling chamber is located externally of the swimming pool at the same general elevation as the desired water level so that a water level detector in the stilling chamber will open a valve in a water supply line to supply make-up quantities of water to the swimming pool to maintain the desired water level therein. In one form, the detector includes a plurality of probes extending downwardly within a secondary stilling chamber member located within the main stilling chamber. A relay unit receives an electrical signal when the detected water level falls below a desired water level to open a solenoid-operated valve located in the water supply pipe. In the second embodment, a valve assembly in the stilling chamber is mechanically operated by a float connected by a control arm to the valve assembly.

Abstract:

A method for synthesizing borazine by preparing a liquid mixture of ammonia borane and a high boiling point solvent which is inert to ammonia borane, and heating said mixture to obtain borazine and hydrogen. Volatized borazine is stripped from the hydrogen during synthesis and any borazine entrained in the solvent is removed by distillation.
