Abstract:
The present invention provides constructed (. ) strains that are toxic to mosquito larvae. The mosquito-toxic. strains have improved characteristics, such as increased production of mosquito-toxic proteins, reduced number of spores or increased variety of mosquito-toxic proteins, compared with the well-known, mosquito-toxic strain subspecies ( ). The present invention involves insertion of an antibiotic-resistance gene into the mosquito-toxin plasmid having a size of approximately 75 mDa such that the plasmid is âtaggedâ with antibiotic resistance. The advantage of the tagged mosquito-toxin plasmid is that it permits detection of the rare event in which the mosquito-toxin plasmid is transferred from the strain (the donor strain) into a non- strain (the recipient strain) that normally does not harbor the mosquito-toxin plasmid. Non- recipient cells may have improved characteristics such as reduced spore numbers or increased variety of mosquito-toxic proteins. The present invention also provides for a mechanism of inactivating the antibiotic tag so that.

Abstract:
Nucleic acid sequences and insecticidal proteins encoded from these sequences are provided. Insecticidal proteins encoded by large operons situated within the primary sequence of large extrachromosomal plasmids present in are disclosed. Methods for making transgenic plants resistant to insect infestation as a result of expression of one or more of these proteins is disclosed. strains exhibiting broad host range insecticidal specificity are also disclosed.

The present invention relates to the isolation and characterization of nucleotide sequences encoding novel insecticidal proteins secreted into the extracellular space from and related strains. The proteins are isolated from culture supernatants of and related strains and display insecticidal activity against lepidopteran insects including European corn borer (ECB), tobacco budworm (TBW) and diamondback moth (DBM). Insecticidal proteins encoded by nucleotide sequences that hybridize under stringent conditions to the isolated and characterized nucleotide sequences are disclosed. Methods are disclosed for making and using transgenic cells and plants comprising the novel nucleotide sequence of the invention.

The present invention relates to the isolation and characterization of nucleotide sequences encoding novel insecticidal proteins secreted into the extracellular space from and related strains. The proteins are isolated from culture supernatants of and related strains and display insecticidal activity against coleopteran insects including Colorado potato beetle () and Southern Corn Rootworm (). Insecticidal proteins encoded by nucleotide sequences that hybridize to the isolated and characterized nucleotide sequences are disclosed. Also disclosed are methods of making and using transgenic cells and plants comprising the novel nucleotide sequence of the invention.

Abstract:
This invention provides plants having resistance to invertebrate pests. More specifically, this invention discloses a non-natural transgenic plant cell expressing at least one invertebrate miRNA in planta for suppression of a target gene of an invertebrate pest or of a symbiont associated with the invertebrate pest. Also provided are recombinant DNA constructs for expression of at least one invertebrate miRNA in planta, a non-natural transgenic plant containing the non-natural transgenic plant cell of this invention, a non-natural transgenic plant grown from the non-natural transgenic plant cell of this invention, and non-natural transgenic seed produced by the non-natural transgenic plants, as well as commodity products produced from a non-natural transgenic plant cell, plant, or seed of this invention. This invention further provides a method of suppressing at least one target gene of an invertebrate pest of a plant or of a symbiont associated with the invertebrate, including providing a plant including the non-natural transgenic plant cell of this invention, wherein the invertebrate is the invertebrate pest, the recombinant DNA is transcribed in the non-natural transgenic plant cell to the recombinant miRNA precursor, and when the invertebrate pest ingests the recombinant miRNA precursor, the at least one target gene is suppressed.
