Abstract:

A system for and a method of automatically determining the terminal characteristics and line speed of an unknown asynchronous line terminal are disclosed. The automatic terminal and line speed detector (ATLSD) is a feature that is selectably addable to an existing communications multiplexer module (CMM) of an existing communications controller (CC). The CMM provides the means for selectively intercoupling one of a plurality of different line terminals (LT) at a plurality of remote sites to a central processor (CP) at a central site. The ATLSD includes an ATLSD Table in which are stored a plurality of multibit terminal identifier characters (TICs), each of which TICs defines the terminal identity, terminal characteristics and line speed of the LT that is identified thereby. When ATLSD is desired, a command from the CP places the ATLSD in the scan mode and loads a count transition number (CTN) and a character transition number (KTN) into associated registers of the CMM. The first character that is transmitted by the LT that is to be identified by the ATLSD is sampled by a transition detector for Mark to Space and Space to Mark transitions with a real-time sample counter initiated by the first Mark to Space transition caused by the initial Start (S. sub. T) bit.

Abstract:

A communications multiplexer module (CMM) used to provide an interface between a plurality of line adapters and a host computer. A control memory is provided for storing control words, one word for each adapter. A scanner scans the adapters and at the same time addresses the memory to read out the control word associated with that adapter. The control word contains a bit or bits for designating whether the multiplexer is to operate in an input or an output mode for that adapter. Data bits are received from the line adapters serial by bits are assembled in an assembly/disassembly area of the control word. After each character is assembled it is transferred to the host computer interface. Common multiplexed circuitry is provided for performing parity checking, longitudinal redundancy checking and cyclic redundancy checking of messages.

Any port may be an input or an output port, the designation being determined by bits of the control word associated with the port.

Abstract:

Modeling genealogical trees that span multiple pages can include the creation and use of navigable links between related nodes. When it is determined that a display layout of a genealogical tree will span a plurality of viewable pages by a document viewer, a descendent node is identified that genealogical links directly to a related ancestor node on another page. A selectable ancestor page link is then created and displayed proximate the descendent relative node which, when selected, causes the viewer to render the page containing the ancestor relative node. A selectable descendent page link is also created and displayed proximate the ancestor relative node which, when selected, causes the viewer to render the particular page containing the descendent relative node. Intelligent formatting can also be used to identify and remove or refrain from displaying duplicate branches of the genealogical tree.
