  • Filed:
    Jul 31, 1990
  • Appl. No.:
    7/561019
  • Inventors:
Werner H. Prenger - Coldwater OH
Stephen M. Seibel - Sidney OH
  • Assignee:
    Copeland Corporation - Sidney OH
  • International Classification:
    F25B 4100
  • US Classification:
    62197
  • Abstract:
A refrigeration system incorporating a scroll type compressor is disclosed which includes an injection system for injecting liquid refrigerant into the suction inlet opening of the compressor in response to excessive discharge gas temperature. A temperature sensor assembly is located within a well formed in the discharge chamber and serves to control actuation of the liquid injection system. In one embodiment the sensor assembly incorporates a pair of thermostats, one to control liquid injection and one to shut down the compressor in the event of continued overheating. In another embodiment a single thermostat having two tip temperatures is utilized. In a third embodiment a temperature sensing transducer is utilized in combination with a microprocessor.
  • Discharge Valve Assembly

  • US Patent:
    45482349, Oct 22, 1985
  • Filed:
    Feb 21, 1984
  • Appl. No.:
    6/580779
  • Inventors:
Werner H. Prenger - Coldwater OH
  • Assignee:
    Copeland Corporation - Sidney OH
  • International Classification:
    F16K 1502
  • US Classification:
    13754319
  • Abstract:
An improved discharge valve assembly for use with compressors and particularly the type utilizing a disc-like pressure responsive discharge valve is disclosed which includes a bridge element secured to a plate overlying the valve plate and one or more leaf spring biasing elements of the curved disc type positioned between the bridge element and disc valve member and being operative to urge the valve into a closed position. The bridge element is also provided with guide fingers to retain both the leaf spring elements and valve member in operative position.
  • Scroll Machine With Discus Discharge Valve

    view source
  • US Patent:
    61795895, Jan 30, 2001
  • Filed:
    Jan 4, 1999
  • Appl. No.:
    9/225054
  • Inventors:
    Mark Bass - Sidney OH
Werner H. Prenger - Coldwater OH
Roy J. Doepker - Lima OH
  • Assignee:
    Copeland Corporation - Sidney OH
  • International Classification:
    F01C 102
  • US Classification:
    418 551
  • Abstract:
A scroll compressor includes a discharge valve assembly for blocking compressed refrigerant flow from the discharge chamber through the scroll members. This blocking of flow results in an increased performance for the scroll compressor by minimizing the recompression volume due to the configuration of the value assembly and thus the elimination of reverse rotation at shut down. The discharge valve assembly includes a valve seat, a disc shaped valve member, a retainer, a spring and a stop secured within a recess formed within the scroll member.
  • Scroll Machine With Muffler Assembly

  • US Patent:
    56673710, Sep 16, 1997
  • Filed:
    Apr 8, 1996
  • Appl. No.:
    8/628050
  • Inventors:
Werner H. Prenger - Coldwater OH
Sunil S. Kulkarni - Vandalia OH
  • Assignee:
    Copeland Corporation - Sidney OH
  • International Classification:
    F04C 1804
    F04C 2906
    F01N 106
  • US Classification:
    418 551
  • Abstract:
A scroll machine has a muffler which is located between a discharge port located in the scroll assembly and a discharge chamber located in a hermetic shell. The muffler has a top cap which is attached to a partition which defines the discharge chamber. A muffler is attached to the top cap and extends towards the scroll assembly through an opening in the partition. The muffler has a generally cylindrical body with two end caps having a spherical surface. The cylindrical body and the end caps define a plurality of perforations which comprise a specific percentage of the total area of these components.
