    Methods and systems consistent with the present invention provide a unified messaging system. The unified messaging system comprises a unified messaging system server and clients, such as personal computers, telephones, facsimile machines, and two-way paging machines connected via both land based and wireless connections. This system enables a user to access and retrieve a variety of messages, including voice mail messages, facsimiles, and electronic mail messages via a unified user interface that clearly distinguishes each message type using message identifiers, and segregates messages by type.

    Methods and systems for administering calls on a voice network allow a user to selectively determine which calls will be accepted. The methods and systems may provide unwanted callers with an option to speak with the user for a fee. The methods and systems may provide an initiator of the communication to accept the fee, to confirm acceptance of the fee and to provide payment information for the fee prior to completing the communication. If the initiator does not accept the fee, the communication can be terminated. The methods and systems may verify the payment information and display a verification notice to the user prior to completing the call. The fee to be paid and the method of payment, or payment information may be prescribed by the user.

    Systems and methods for displaying visual content to a user corresponding to sound captured at a user terminal are disclosed. After receiving over a network from a user terminal a request to convert sound into a visual content representing the sound, wherein the sound comprises one or more words, a translation server may retrieve text corresponding to the one or more words from a database. The translation server may then convert the text into one or more content phrases, wherein the content phrases represent the meaning of the one or more words, and convert each of the one or more content phrases into a new language. Finally, the translation server may send visual content to the user terminal representing the new language.

    An apparatus is provided for controlling a display. The apparatus is moveable by an individual user and includes a motion sensor for detecting and providing an indication of one or more types of movement of the apparatus.
