  • US Patent:
    39531015, Apr 27, 1976
  • Filed:
    May 12, 1975
  • Appl. No.:
    5/576510
  • Inventors:
Vincent James Palecek - Cicero IL
  • Assignee:
Bunker Ramo Corporation - Oak Brook IL
  • International Classification:
    H01R 1350
    H01R 1364
  • US Classification:
    339174
  • Abstract:
Electrical connector assemblies in which a flat, leadless integrated circuit package with a ceramic body and conductive pads thereon is rearwardly received on an insulating base means and the conductive pads are interconnected under high unit pressure with active portions of contact means disposed on the base means wherein the pressure engagement of the active portions provides at least partial support for the package. Initially, free-ended active portions of the contact means extend frontwardly from mounting portions fixably positioned in the base means, and are movable rearwardly with lateral deflection by cantilever spring means interconnecting the active and mounting portions, the rearward movement developing a high unit pressure between the active portions and pads and the lateral deflection providing a wiping action on the conductive pads. Free ends of the active portions are resiliently rearwardly restrained in the base means and provide a frontward biasing means for additional development of high unit pressure during initial rearward movement of the conductive pads and active portions in engaging relationship. Polarizing pins disposed on the base means and engageable with the package act to restrain the package against lateral displacement during wiping action of the active portions.
  • Overconnector Assembly

  • US Patent:
    53435478, Aug 30, 1994
  • Filed:
    May 4, 1993
  • Appl. No.:
    8/057696
  • Inventors:
Vincent J. Palecek - Brookfield IL
James W. McGinley - Schaumburg IL
Philip W. Schofield - Oak Park IL
  • International Classification:
    G02B 600
    G02B 636
  • US Classification:
    375 76
  • Abstract:
An overconnector assembly having a pair of half sections which can be interlocked to form a generally rectangular collar for mounting a pair of simplex connector housing portions one above the other within the collar, at least one of the half sections having a perpendicularly extending post intermediate the ends thereof and projecting toward the other half section to separate a pair of connector housings mounted within said collar, the post being dimensioned to permit a controlled amount of pivotal movement between the connector housing portions.
  • Fiber Optic Connector

  • US Patent:
    51214555, Jun 9, 1992
  • Filed:
    Sep 11, 1990
  • Appl. No.:
    7/580834
  • Inventors:
Vincent J. Palecek - Cicero IL
  • Assignee:
Methode Electronics, Inc. - Chicago IL
  • International Classification:
    G02B 638
  • US Classification:
    385 69
  • Abstract:
A fiber optic connector for terminating a length of fiber optic cable having a central fiber optic core covered by cladding. The connector preferably comprises a rigid, one-piece, integrally molded plastic sleeve for fitting over the end of the optic cable with an outermost end of said cable being typically stripped of all material outside of said cladding, and said outermost end projecting in snugly fitting relation through a bore in an outer end of the rigid sleeve. The bore also defines through the sleeve a section spaced from the outer end which is of increased diameter when compared with the bore at the outer end, to snugly receive a portion of the fiber optic cable having unstripped buffer. The rigid sleeve may carry side apertures for receiving a plurality of U-shaped retention members which pass transversely through the side apertures, preferably from a plurality of transverse directions, to grip and retain the fiber optic cable. Also a coupling ring is provided having an arcuate, diagonal slot that permits the system to be reliably used in the manner of a push-pull connector.

  • US Patent:
    43592589, Nov 16, 1982
  • Filed:
    Jan 14, 1980
  • Appl. No.:
    6/111914
  • Inventors:
Vincent J. Palecek - Cicero IL
    B. Alan Berg - Wood Dale IL
  • Assignee:
    TRW Inc. - Cleveland OH
  • International Classification:
    H01R 909
  • US Classification:
    339176MP
  • Abstract:
An electrical connector having a socket for receiving a male contact, and an integral solder tail which projects into an opening in a circuit board and is soldered therein. The socket includes a pair of flexible opposed beam sections projecting axially from a cylindrical base and defining therebetween a contact area for receiving and engaging a male electrical contact. The flexible opposed beam sections have respective first portions converging from the base toward the contact area and respective second portions diverging from the contact area toward distal ends which define a target area for the male electrical contact. The distal ends define a circular target area for guiding a male electrical contact into the socket. The connector includes integral, locking tabs deformable angularly and in opposite directions relative to the central axis for engaging an insulator housing to help retain the socket in a housing while accommodating relative radial deflection of the socket and the solder tail.

  • US Patent:
    47747633, Oct 4, 1988
  • Filed:
    Aug 27, 1986
  • Appl. No.:
    6/900716
  • Inventors:
Vincent J. Palecek - Cicero IL
Dennis R. Eul - Palatine IL
  • Assignee:
Methode Electronics, Inc. - Chicago IL
  • International Classification:
    H01R 4316
  • US Classification:
    29874
  • Abstract:
A method of making an electrical contact intended to be inserted into a plated-through hole in a printed circuit board including a compliant section which engages the inside of the hole in an interference fit thereby gripping the sides of the hole to retain the pin therein providing excellent electrical integrity without need for soldering.
