  • Positional Transducer Utilizing Magnetic Elements

    view source
  • US Patent:
    39582035, May 18, 1976
  • Filed:
    Sep 15, 1975
  • Appl. No.:
    5/613156
  • Inventors:
Victor M. Bernin - Mount Prospect IL
  • Assignee:
Illinois Tool Works Inc. - Chicago IL
  • International Classification:
    H01F 2100
    G08C 1906
  • US Classification:
    336110
  • Abstract:
A positional transducer is disclosed which utilizes an elongated, hollow, cylindrical tube of a magnetically saturable material, a sense wire that runs through the tube parallel to its elongated axis and a pair of elongated, generally rectangular shaped magnets of opposite polarity which have a length that is no greater than the length of the tube and which are closely positioned adjacent diametrically opposite exterior portions of the tube. As the magnets move over in the tube, they provide substantially complete saturation of the tube in the portion over which they extend while the remaining portion of the tube remains unsaturated thereby giving a linear indication of the position of the magnets with respect to the tube.
  • Noncontacting Keyboard Employing A Transformer Element

    view source
  • US Patent:
    44941099, Jan 15, 1985
  • Filed:
    Jan 28, 1981
  • Appl. No.:
    6/229175
  • Inventors:
Victor M. Bernin - Mount Prospect IL
  • International Classification:
    G06F 302
  • US Classification:
    340365L
  • Abstract:
Noncontacting transformer switches are interconnected into keyboard networks which include insertable magnetic core, shorted turn or combination actuators. In a preferred embodiment, windings are provided and interconnected to form differential transformers. An actuator is inserted through one primary/secondary winding pair to switch the differential transformer between a balanced or "off" state and an unbalanced or "on" state. In one embodiment, single turn primary windings and their interconnecting network are printed on one side of a printed circuit board, and single turn secondary windings and their interconnecting network are printed in proper alignment on the opposite side of the board. A single hole aligned with a switched primary/secondary winding pair is provided for each transformer switch and actuators are arranged to be inserted through the holes. The transformer switches may be arranged to form a matrix array with the secondary windings connected to form a plurality of series connected winding rows and the primary windings connected to form a plurality of series connected winding columns.
