Abstract:

The present invention relates to a method of inhibiting coal oxidation in a coal pile which includes coating all the surfaces of coal exposed to air with an oxidation inhibiting amount of a composition comprising (a) a water soluble cationic polymer and (b) a wetting agent selected from an anionic or nonionic surfactant, or mixtures thereof.

Abstract:

A method and composition for dewatering coal and mineral slurries by centrifugation or filtration wherein a dewatering aid in combination with a clay dispersant is added to the slurry prior to centrifugation. The dewatering aid is preferably an alkylphenolethoxylate surfactant and the clay dispersant is preferably sodium hexametaphosphate. The combination aids in dewatering and also reduces the ash content of coal treated with the combination.

A method for dewatering the refuse ash generated by a municipal solid waste facility by adding to the ash a copolymer and a nonionic surfactant selected from the group consisting of primary alcohol ethoxylates, secondary alcohol ethoxylates and alkyl phenol ethoxylates.
