Abstract:

A material handling system and method of use for increasing throughput at security checkpoints. The material handling system includes a dual input conveyor with a merge conveyor leading to a detection system. At the output of the detection system is a diverting mechanism which will divert the items leaving the detection system to one of two output conveyors, corresponding to the input conveyors. A reject mechanism and accompanying conveyor may be provided, in addition to a bin return and control system.

The central control computer can transmit, among other things, operational software and threat profiles to the threat scanning machines, while the threat scanning machines can transmit, among other things, images and performance data to the central computer. The threat scanning machine management system can be arranged in a hierarchical manner, which enables threat scanning machines at various locations to be connected into regional, national or international control centers for greater management efficiency. The network may be wireless and the control computer may be portable, enabling a supervisor to remotely manage the threat scanning machines while remaining mobile about the facility, or elsewhere. Additionally, the threat scanning machine management system can be accessed and monitored remotely from a web browser via secure Internet access.

Abstract:

A threat scanning system may employ disposable flexible baggage containers with a coefficient of friction selected to encourage sliding of the containers past side rails and other baggage. An exemplary system may have a threat scanning machine, a first feeder conveyor having a baggage entrance, a second feeder conveyor substantially parallel to the first feeder conveyor, and a scanner conveyer arranged to receive baggage from the first and second feeder conveyors and to convey baggage to the threat scanning machine, the scanner conveyor having one or more side rails that baggage containers may impact. After baggage is conveyed through the threat scanning machine, the baggage containers may be discarded after a single use.
