    Methods and apparatus for processing a seek request on a disk drive apparatus having a disk drive head is disclosed. The seek request is processed. During the seek request, the disk drive head is traversed across an actual distance. At least one expected seek time associated with the actual distance is obtained from a set of seek time data. One or more measurements are performed on the disk drive apparatus to obtain an update value. At least one expected seek time is then updated such that at least part of the update value is included in the at least one expected seek time.

    Wedge Offset Reduction Field (WORF) data can be used to reduce the effective written-in runout of a servo pattern. In order to prevent the WORF data from being applied to an improper portion of the servo pattern, the identification of a quadrant associated with that WORF data can be stored with the WORF data. For example, the servo pattern of a hard disk can contain a number of servo burst boundaries. In order to ensure that the WORF data is applied to the proper burst boundary, the identity of a quadrant associated with that boundary can be written into the servo wedge along with the WORF data.     The power consumed by a data storage device having at least one disk connected with a spindle can be reduced by reducing the rotation rate of the spindle to a rotation rate greater than zero. In one method in accordance with the present invention, wherein a head is in communication with each disk, the spindle can be rotated at a first rotation rate. The head can be parked and the rotation of the spindle can then be reduced to a rotation rate greater than zero. By reducing the rotation rate of the spindle, the power consumed by the spindle can be reduced by approximately the ratio of spin speeds to the exponential power of 1. 5.     Embodiments of the present invention determine the offset of a first burst of a burst pair from a centerline. This can be used to determine the desired offset position for a second burst of the burst pair. The target signal to provided the data storage unit for writing the second burst can take into account the transfer function of the controller and the physical plant so as to more accurately write at the desired offset position.
