Abstract:

A system for provisioning of enhanced telephone services by the subscriber is provided for a base telephone account. The system allows enhanced services that are recorded to a subscriber's base telephone data block at the PSTN provider to be configured based on time of day, week, or any user identified formula. Enhanced services include multiple telephone lines, voice mail, call waiting, and access to special lines. By provisioning services, a subscriber can pay prorated charges for only those services during the designated time span of activation.

A wireless mobile telephone for connecting to multiple networks that includes a cellular module for routing calls through a cellular telephone network, a wireless network module, operably connected to the cellular module, for routing calls on a wireless local area network (WLAN). The mobile telephone provides simultaneous connectivity to a cellular network and a WLAN and automatically detects and configures the mobile telephone to the WLAN when the mobile telephone enters a WLAN broadcast area using pre-programmed operating profiles for each different WLAN.

Abstract:

The invention provides a method and system to create and stores multi-media messages for delivery over a packet network. When a real-time media path over a packet network between two IP phones is unavailable the method monitors the network connection and delivers the recorded message when the media path is available. The invention provides a caller the ability to delivery a message over a packet network to a called party when the called party does not answer an IP phone call and does not have voice mail or video mail capabilities. A caller signals a call agent to record a message and the call agent delivers the message based upon a delivery schedule entered by the caller.

Abstract:

Methods and systems are provided for securely providing and retaining phone numbers. A party name is provided and an associated phone number, which is encrypted employing an encryption algorithm. The party name is added to an electronic phone list, while the associated telephone number is retained in an encrypted state. A user can select the caller name from the electronic phone list for placing a call. The associated phone number is then decrypted, and the call made employing the decrypted phone number. The decrypted version of the phone number can then be removed or erased from memory. Therefore, the decrypted version of the telephone number is not available for viewing by the user or accessible to an undesirable party that may acquire access to the electronic phone list.

Abstract:

Providing a method and software solution to add robustness to real-time media streams such as voice, video and audio streams on a network. When the network channel carrying the media stream experiences an adverse condition that affects the transmissions, such as high packet loss or corruption of packets, a robust mode is activated at an intermediate node of the end-to-end transmission for the media stream to the destination link. The robust mode of the present invention may be activated on specific network links that are experiencing the network problems and not necessarily on the end-to-end communication path. Under certain conditions, an intermediate network node may terminate robust mode in packets received from an upstream link when the network channel in question no longer experiences the adverse network condition.
