Breaking the Prison Pipeline:Susan Burton, who spent years in prison, is determined to keep other female ex-convicts from returning to prison by giving them a place to live thats free of drugs, alcohol and abusive relationships. She has helped hundreds of them start new lives.
Susan Burton asked her students to toss out words expressing how the tornadoes made them feel "distraught" and "devastated" were among them, but also "thankful" and "blessed." She had them write brief essays and choked back tears when she told the students how proud she was of them.
