A universal tinting concentrate for both solvent- and water-based paints and coatings. The universal tinting concentrate is a composition which includes a colorant component, such as pigment, colorant, tinting agent and/or metal effect agent; a pigment dispersant including a moiety selected from the group consisting of an organic acid, anhydride, salt thereof, and derivative thereof, wherein the dispersant facilitates the dispersal of the colorant component in organic-based and aqueous-based vehicles; and a pH-neutralizing agent. In one embodiment of the invention, the pigment dispersant is represented by the following structure: where r and s are integers and r+s is 6 to 16; x and y are integers and x+y is 0 to 19; Z is H or COOH; and Zâ is H or COOH.
A universal colorant composition for both solvent- and water-based paints and coatings includes a colorant component, such as pigment, dye, colorant, tinting agent and/or metal effect agent; a surfactant package including at least one alkyd-compatible; surfactant and at least one latex-compatible surfactant; and a carrier. When the surfactant package is added to a base paint it provides a mixture having a drop in viscosity of less than about 50%.

Abstract:
White-pigmented and unpigmented base paints and stains are custom-tinted using an automated colorant dispenser having a minimum fluid dispensing quantity less than 0. 01 fluid ounce (
A universal colorant system for both solvent- and water-based paints and coatings is contained in a closed sealed pouch or cartridge-style container, and includes a colorant component, a surfactant package including at least one alkyd-compatible surfactant and at least one latex-compatible surfactant, and a carrier. When the colorant system is added to a base paint it desirably provides a mixture having a drop in viscosity of less than about 50%.
Architectural Paint And Stain Tinting System With Tip Drying Resistance
Custom-tinted paints and stains are made using an array of low VOC concentrated liquid colorants including at least at least white colorant; black colorant; and green-hued, blue-hued and red-hued primary colorants at least one of which primary colorants comprises polyalkylene glycol humectant, ethoxylated surfactant and extender pigment. For colorants in the array containing polyalkylene glycol humectant, the humectant and ethoxylated surfactant amounts are sufficiently high and extender pigment amount is sufficiently low so that the colorants will not problematically plug colorant dispenser orifices if left in the dispenser without an orifice cap for a full day. The polyalkylene glycol humectant is also present in an amount sufficiently low so that dried paint films made by mixing the colorants with a clear waterborne base paint will resist blocking.

Abstract:
Fluid concentrates, colorants and coating compositions contain solid pigment particles dispersed in a nonvolatilizing, reactive liquid diluent having a viscosity less than 1,000 cps and containing at least one molecular species having at least three reactive unsaturated sites. The reactive liquid diluent may serve as one or more of a dispersing medium for the solid pigment particles, a carrier, a coalescent and a humectant, and may crosslink or otherwise cure to form an interpenetrating polymer network in, or crosslink with, a pigmented coating composition containing a film-forming polymeric binder. Embodiments of the reactive liquid diluent can provide colorants and coating compositions having reduced levels of VOCs, conventional carriers, conventional dispersants, conventional coalescents and conventional humectants.
The present disclosure refers to an aqueous stain resistant coating composition, comprising, one or more aqueous dispersions of self-crosslinkable polymeric particles; and one or more particulate solids, wherein the polymeric particles have a Tg of 10 C. or less; and wherein the particulate solids comprise a combination of sheet-like particulate solids and sphere-like particulate solids in a weight ratio of 1:1 or more; and wherein the coating composition has a pigment volume concentration of 45% or more; and the coating composition is substantially free of volatile organic compounds.
