  • Assignee:
Conexant Systems, Inc. - Newport Beach CA
  • International Classification:
    H04L 1228
  • US Classification:
    3703951, 370397, 370522, 370535
  • Abstract:
A signaling technique for use with an asynchronous transfer mode (ATM) over asymmetric digital subscriber line (ADSL) system is disclosed. The ATM over ADSL system employs an ATM multiplexer (MUX) operatively connected to a number of downstream ATM devices and operatively connected to an upstream ATM switch. The MUX is configured to receive and process upstream setup messages that originate from the downstream ATM devices. In response to an upstream message cell, the MUX compares the call reference number (CRN) contained in the setup message with a table of CRN values associated with other calls. If necessary, the MUX assigns a new CRN value to the current setup message such that the current connection with the originating downstream device is uniquely identified by the assigned CRN. The MUX uses a CRN mapping table to facilitate the unambiguous downstream routing of subsequent signaling cells. In this manner, the MUX can output ATM cells associated with a very large number of concurrent downstream users over a single link devoted to the ATM switch.
  • System And Method For Providing Look Ahead Socket Generation

  • US Patent:
    6859836, Feb 22, 2005
  • Filed:
    Mar 28, 2001
  • Appl. No.:
    09/819945
  • Inventors:
Massoud Alibakhsh - Tucker GA, US
Shahram Famorzadeh - Atlanta GA, US
Gerald Holmann - Atlanta GA, US
  • International Classification:
    G06F015/16
  • US Classification:
    709227, 709228
  • Abstract:
A system and method for providing look ahead socket generation is disclosed. Generally, when a client application requests communication with a server application, protocol associated with the client application requests an open connected socket from a socket pool. The protocol receives the open connected socket and assigns the socket to the client application to provide communication between the client application and the server application. The socket pool is replenished after reception of the socket to ensure that a predefined number of open connected sockets is maintained within the socket pool. Established communication between the client application and the server application is then maintained by the protocol.
  • System And Method For Performing Power Management Without Losing Data, Connectivity Or Reachability

    view source
  • US Patent:
    7050782, May 23, 2006
  • Filed:
    Aug 27, 2002
  • Appl. No.:
    10/228586
  • Inventors:
Abdelnaser M. Adas - Costa Mesa CA, US
Joel D. Peshkin - Irvine CA, US
Shahram Famorzadeh - Atlanta GA, US
  • Assignee:
Mindspeed Technologies, Inc. - Newport Beach CA
  • International Classification:
    H04B 1/16
  • US Classification:
    4553431, 455574, 370331, 340 732
  • Abstract:
A system and method for performing power management in a communication system without losing data is disclosed. The G. Lite system is an exemplary system suitable for implementing the present invention because it includes at least one operational state and an idle state in which no data is transmitted. The G. Lite standard defines ATU states. The defined states are full on state L0, low power state L1 and idle state L3. In L0 state, the ADSL link is fully operational at full data rate. In L1 state, the ADSL link is fully operational at a lower data rate. In L3 state, no signal is transmitted. Because no signal is transmitted, no idle cells are transmitted. This will result in losing the cell delineation and ATM link connectivity. Therefore, when data is received for an ATU in L3 state, data cells may be lost. The present invention solves the problem of lost data cells by allowing interaction between the control path and the data path by requesting that the micro-controller be interrupted when a data cell arrives for an ATU-C that is in L3 state.
