Abstract:
The disclosure concerns a scleral expansion segment of the type consisting of an arched rod designed to be placed on the sclera perpendicular to the ciliary body. The free ends of said rod have a spatula shape wider than the diameter of said bridge, so as to constitute wide support bases.

Disposable Separator For Separating The Epithelium Layer From The Cornea Of An Eye
James Lisk - Suwanee GA, US Scott Hampton - Cumming GA, US
International Classification:
A61F009/00
US Classification:
606/166000
Abstract:
A separator constructed of a polymeric material is used with a surgical device that separates the epithelium of a cornea from the underlying Bowman's layer of an eye of a patient. The surgical device includes a positioning ring for temporary attachment to the eye and is structured to present and expose the cornea to be separated. The separator support is structured and disposed to carry the separator. A drive is operably connected to the separator support for causing movement of the separator across the positioning ring and for causing oscillating movement of said separator.
Apparatus And Method For Separating The Epithelium Layer From The Cornea Of An Eye Without Corneal Pre-Applanation

International Classification:

US Classification:
606/166000
Abstract:
An instrument for separating at least a portion of the epithelium from Bowman's layer of a cornea of an eye. The instrument includes a vacuum-operated positioning ring for temporary attachment to the eye so that the cornea is received and exposed in a non-planar configuration and the epithelium is not in contact with any portion of the instrument. In addition, the instrument has a separator with an edge that separates the epithelium of the non-planar cornea from the underlying Bowman's layer as the separator moves along a predetermined path intersecting the cornea. No portion of the instrument contacts the epithelium prior to it being separated from Bowman's layer by the separating edge.

Abstract:
A separator that includes a body and a leading edge portion. The leading edge portion includes an upper planar surface oriented at an angle ranging from approximately 40 to 90 relative to a horizontal plane and a lower planar surface oriented at an angle ranging from approximately 0 to 30 relative to the horizontal plane, wherein the upper planar surface and the lower planar surface intersect one another so as to define a blunt leading edge and the leading edge portion is made of a material that has a hardness so as to separate an epithelial layer of an eye from an cornea stroma of said eye without substantially damaging said epithelial layer and wherein said blunt leading edge is incapable of cutting said stroma.

Abstract:
A separator is disclosed for moving a separated portion of an eye. The separator includes an upper surface. A lower planar surface is oriented at an angle with respect to the upper surface. The upper surface and the lower planar surface define an edge therebetween having a structure to remove a portion of an eye. The upper surface includes a structure to receive the removed portion of the eye and to roll the removed portion.
Polymeric Drug-Delivery Material, Method For Manufacturing Thereof And Method For Delivery Of A Drug-Delivery Composition
A method for manufacturing a drug-delivery composition includes providing at least one pharmaceutically active compound, a dry powder comprising at least a polymer, and an aqueous solution. The dry powder, the pharmaceutically active compound and the aqueous solution are mixed to form a paste-like or semi-solid drug-delivery composition, wherein the aqueous solution is added in an amount of less than or equal to twice the total dry mass of the dry powder.
