Abstract:

A bi-polar implant system for use in a patient's jawbone includes an undersized drill shaped cavity formed in a patient's jawbone for receiving a bi-polar implant assembly. A proximal tapered portion is positioned at a proximal end of the bi-polar implant assembly. An expandable skirt portion adjacent to the proximal tapered portion forms a distal end of the bi-polar implant assembly, where the expandable skirt portion includes a plurality of moveable bone anchor segments. A draw screw has a threaded shank portion positioned to cooperate with an expansion nut. Rotation of the draw screw draws the expansion nut upwards into the expandable skirt portion for forcing the movable bone anchor segments into locking engagement with the jawbone. The proximal tapered portion and the expandable skirt portion exhibit an hourglass shape for providing double compaction on the jawbone within the drill shaped cavity for stabilizing the bi-polar implant assembly.

Abstract:

A method comprises attaching an abutment to an implant body so as to form a seal and cover the implant body, the implant body having a top portion with an external tapered surface and a bottom portion secured within a jaw bone of a patient. The abutment has a top portion adapted to secure a prosthetic component and a bottom portion adapted to be positioned below a gumline of the patient. The bottom portion of the abutment is shaped to attach to and fit over the implant body. The bottom portion of the abutment has a cavity with an internal tapered surface. The internal tapered surface of the abutment and the external tapered surface of the implant body form a Morse taper.

Abstract:

A dental implant assembly comprises an elongated tubular body adapted for securement within a bore in a jaw bone of a patient. The body has an expandable bottom portion. The expandable bottom portion has an outer thread on an outer surface. The outer thread has a major diameter that gradually increases from a first major diameter near a bottom end of the body to a second major diameter near a top end of the bottom portion. The top end of the bottom portion is located between the bottom top ends of the body. An expander at least partially extends into the bottom end of the tubular body. The expander is configured to be advanced from a first position in which the bottom portion of the body is not expanded to a second position in which the expander forces the bottom portion of the body to expand.

Abstract:

An implant assembly includes an elongated hollow body having a skirt which can be positively secured within a bore in a bone of a patient by an expander mechanism, and an abutment which extends from the skirt outwardly from the bore for supporting a prosthetic component. Optionally, an abutment post may be provided which has a head position adjacent to the abutment and a shank received within the hollow body. In a related process for preparing the prosthesis, a transfer component is utilized to replicate the body portion surrounding the implant to facilitate manufacturing the prosthetic component. In this regard, an impression is taken over the abutment with the associated transfer component, and an implant analog having the transfer component associated therewith is inserted into the impression. A stone mold is created utilizing the impression having the inserted implant analog, which stone mold is utilized to form the prosthesis.
