Abstract:

The present invention is directed to a human body protecting element for use with and attachment to an article of clothing, such as sports apparel, to protect a wearer from impact and frictional forces, such as road rash. One exemplary body protecting element includes a first part having a first locking member. The first part is for placement along an inner surface of the article of clothing. The body protecting element also includes a second part having a second locking member that is complementary to the first locking member and results in a mechanical coupling (e.g., a snap-fit attachment) between the first and second parts when the first and second locking members engage one another. The second part is for placement along an outer surface of the article of clothing and includes an outer ground contacting contoured surface. The ground contacting surface provides a high impact surface that is contoured so that if the wearer contacts and/or slides across the ground, the ground contacting surface protects the wearer by shielding the wearer's body from the abrasive ground surface.

Abstract:

The present invention is directed to a novel method of fabricating and composition for chalcogenide cathode-active electrodes. The method comprises the steps of: (a) combining the cathode-active material in particulate form with about 0. 1 to about 10 percent by weight of a neutralized sulfonated ionomer, based on the total weight of the cathode-active material and the ionomer, and about 10 to about 90 percent by weight of solvent, based on the total weight of the cathode-active material, ionomer and solvent, wherein said solvent is a cosolvent system which includes one or more solvents selected from the group consisting of normal and aromatic hydrocarbons and one or more solvents selected from the group consisting of alcohols, amines, amides, nitriles, nitro-compounds, lactones and acetols; (b) forming the desired electrode configuration with the resulting mixture; and (c) drying the formed electrode so as to volatilize the solvent. The composition consists essentially of (a) a chalcogenide material in a particulate form consisting of one or more compounds selected from a group consisting of the sulfides, selenides and tellurides of titanium, zirconium, hafnium, niobium, tantalum, molybdenum and vanadium; and (b) less than about 10 weight percent of a neutralized sulfonated elastomeric polymer having less than about 6 mole percent neutralized sulfonate groups per 100 grams of said polymer.

Abstract:

A forward recovery foot support system for any shoe but primarily for running and jogging shoes. The system includes a base conforming generally to the contour of a human foot, a first ray extension attached to the base and extending substantially only under the first proximal phalanx of the foot, a fifth ray extension attached to the base and extending substantially only under the fifth proximal phalanx of the foot, and a heel post attached to the base and extending substantially only under the heel bone and providing added elevation at the most lateral aspect of the heel bone to compensate for the natural inversion of 2. degree. -3. degree. that is present in most persons' heels. This invention relates to the injection moldable and extrusion type electrically conductive polymeric blend compositions having a viscosity at 200. degree. C. at 0. 73 sec. sup. -1 of less than about 8. times. 10. sup. 5 poises. The compositions used for elastomeric articles include a neutralized sulfonated polymer; graphite fiber at a concentration of about 1 to about 50 parts by weight per 100 parts by weight of neutralized sulfonated polymer; and a preferential plasticizer at about less than 60 parts by weight based on 100 parts by weight of the neutralized sulfonated polymer. The composition may also optionally include fillers, oils and other additives. These blend compositions can be readily processed due to their superior rheological properties on conventional plastic fabrication equipment, especially on low and high pressure injection molding or extrusion equipment into electrically conductive articles having excellent physical and electrical properties.

This invention relates to a process for the manufacture of a neutralized phosphonated ethylene-propylene copolymer having about 1 to about 150 mmoles of PO. sub. 3 H. sub. 2 groups which are neutralized with a counterion selected from the group comprising metal cations, ammonium or amines. Elastomeric compositions used for elastomeric articles could include the neutralized phosphonated ethylene-propylene copolymer having about 20 to about 200 parts by weight of a non-polar process oil per 100 parts of the phosphonated copolymer and about 25 to about 300 parts by weight of a filler per 100 parts of the phosphonated copolymer, wherein a preferential plasticizer can also be incorporated into the composition. These blend compositions can be readily processed on conventional plastic fabrication equipment into elastomeric articles having excellent physical properties and desirable rubber characteristics.

Abstract:

A foot support system for any shoe; walking, athletic, men, women's dress shoes, children's shoes. The system includes a base that conforming to the contour of a human foot, a heel post attached to the base and extending substantially under heel bone to relieve pressure on contact and provide stability and heel support, a transverse metatarsal stabilization bar located posterior or behind the metatarsal heads in the mid foot for stability of control of the 2, 3, and 4metatarsal. A first ray extension originates at the metatarsal stabilization bar posterior to the metatarsal heads in the middle of the foot and ending distal-end to the mid-section of the first toe. Fifth ray extension originates at the transverse metatarsal stabilization bar posterior to the metatarsal heads in the middle of the foot and ending distal-end to the mid-section of the fifth toe. The orthotic system can be designed as an insert independent of a convention shoe sole, or may be incorporated into the sole of the shoe.
