Abstract:

A handrail is defined by a main tubular body formed of a non-corrosive, rigid vinyl material. The handrail includes a first open end, a second open end and a mid-section extending therebetween, with at least one curved portion formed along the mid-section. One or more rigid inserts are fitted within a hollow interior of the handrail for providing rigidity and strength and for reducing bending and flexing of the handrail when a load is applied thereto. The opposite first and second open ends of the handrail are covered with caps to provide a watertight seal which prevents moisture from entering the hollow interior. The rigid inserts may also be capped at opposite ends to protect against corrosion.

Abstract:

A laminated color dye filter including a layer of substantially transparent dye-colored plastic laminated to a layer of substantially transparent base material such as glass. The thermal conductivity of the base material is greater than the thermal conductivity of the plastic. Upon the plastic becoming heated as light passes therethrough a portion of the heat is transferred to the base material which dissipates or conveys away at least a portion of the heat thereby providing the laminated color light filter with an increased useful life. An article of manufacture including a layer of substantially transparent dye-colored plastic having a layer of substantially transparent pressure-sensitive adhesive applied to one surface thereof and which may include a release liner or sheet covering the layer of adhesive.

Abstract:

The present invention relates to a functional screen assay for nonsense or frameshift mutations that allows genes of interest to be scanned. This assay is based on the cloning of segments of the gene of interest in-frame with a sequence coding for a marker followed by screening for the level of expression of the marker. Individuals at risk for any one of a number of genetic diseases, which are associated with such nonsense or frameshift mutations, can be quickly screened for chain-terminating mutations introduced by these nonsense and frameshift mutations. At present, scanning of many genes for mutations requires significant effort because the genes are large and most mutations are unique. Therefore, this assay offers a powerful option for the diagnosis of many genetic diseases.
