Abstract:

A threaded cable hanger attached to a stud includes a reverse (protuberant) dimple that provides a seat for the end of the stud, and permits the bar to make up to a full final turn to permit the bar to be in a desired orientation. A stud top containing the reverse dimple may be disposed across the path of the stud. The stud stop may slowly bend from a configuration extending toward the stud to a configuration extending away from the stud, during bending absorbing energy and resisting excessive torquing. A pair of overlapping arms may be provided, one of which is internally threaded to receive the stud and guide it toward the reverse dimple and stud stop. When a large external force attempts to pull the bar off the stud, or when torquing is extreme, the arms unfold and create a binding action on the stud.

Abstract:

This invention provides an adapter for a bracket having a flat support surface with slots in it, the adapter comprising a unitary member having an arcuate surface positioned on the flat surface of the bracket with side flanges complementarily receiving the side edges of the bracket and end flanges having outer portions received in slots of the bracket. The arcuate surface of the adapter is used in supporting the load imposed on the bracket.

Abstract:

A suspension system is provided for use with a four-sided stud welded to a supporting surface. The suspension system includes a square tube having a series of openings through its side walls. One end of the tube receives the stud and is bolted to it. The opposite end of the square tube is received between opposed channels of a bracket which has a bottom plate portion adapted to support an object. Bolts extend through openings in the channels and the bottom end of the square tube to complete the attachment.

Abstract:

A supporting arrangement for objects such as light fixtures and pipes on ships is provided which includes a vertical support which at its lower end engages the object to be supported and at its upper end connects by bolts to a stud welded to the deck of the ship. A brace connects with a clamp that can be positioned where desired along the support member to an angle bracket which is carried by a short post welded to the deck at a location remote from the weld stud.

Abstract:

A versatile support apparatus and method primarily for use aboard ships includes a stud welded to an overhead deck plate or to a vertical bulkhead or side wall of the ship. Securing to the stud and extending to the article supported is an elongate support assembly including a bracket portion supportingly engaging the article. The support assembly includes a bolted joint providing for large scale adjustment of the length of the support assembly, and of the position of the article supported. Also, the support assembly includes a threaded join providing fine-dimension adjustment of the support assembly. The support assembly is of simplified construction, is economical to make and install, maintains its large scale and fine-dimension adjustments once installed, allows easier maintenance of suspended articles in the usually crowded shipboard environment, and is very versatile in its application. Consequently, the support apparatus and method of the present invention reduces construction and maintenance costs for ships.

Abstract:

A wireway is provided from a unitary member, shaped as a channel, with a slotted central web for supporting cables or the like. One of the side flanges of the channel has an extension with a doubled over portion used as the attachment to a downcomer. Flanges at the opposite edges of the doubled over portion receive the downcomer. When attached to the open side of a downcomer channel, a spacer block extends between the downcomer and the doubled over portion.

Abstract:

This invention provides a method for producing an internally threaded part through a stamping operation in one embodiment of which a die is provided with a curvature greater than that of the completed part. A punch is provided having ridges thereon collectively complementary in cross section to a thread to be produced and of a curvature slightly less than that of said cavity in said die, and a workpiece is engaged by said punch so as to force it against the die and form grooves in the workpiece the full depth of the thread to be produced, after which the workpiece is given a cylindrical shape, bringing the ends of the grooves into registry so as to provide an internally threaded part. Only a single stroke normally is required in forming the grooves. In another embodiment, a sheet metal workpiece is engaged by a punch having curved convex protrusions defining a plurality of ribs and a die having a cavity with a curved convex surface so as to provide grooves therein from the ribs, the workpiece then being engaged again by at least one additional similar punch and die so as to extend the grooves, the workpiece finally being shaped to a cylindrical form so that the grooves provide a screw thread.

Abstract:

A downcomer shaped as a channel is attached to a four-sided stud welded to a supporting surface. The central web of the downcomer engages one side of the stud and its side flanges are spaced from two additional sides of the stud. A U-shaped member overlies the remaining side of the stud, with side flanges of the U-shaped member positioned in the spaces between the side flanges of the downcomer and the adjacent sides of the stud. Fasteners hold the assembly together.
