Abstract:

A device and a method for measuring wrist motion is provided. The device allows for direct determination of wrist position in the radial/ulnar and flexion/extension planes, without needing calibration or determination of the center of rotation of the wrist. The goniometer forearm component is adapted to be releasably affixed to a forearm of a user. A hand component is also provided adapted to be releasably affixed to a hand of the user. The displacement measuring devices include cables adapted to be connected to the hand component. The displacement measuring devices are configured to ultimately measure angular displacement of the hand component relative to the forearm component.

Abstract:

A muscle exercise and rehabilitation apparatus including a patient chair having a first side and a second side is disclosed. Structure is provided for the rehabilitation and exercise of a patient seated in the patient chair. Structure is provided to move the rehabilitation and exercise structure between a first position adjacent the first side of the patient chair and a second position adjacent the second side of the patient chair in a first linear path. Structure is provided to support the patient chair for movement along a second linear path toward and away from the exercise and rehabilitation structure.

Abstract:

A device for measuring the angle of curvature of the lumbar spine of a subject includes a flexible, elongate member disposed parallel, and fixed at one point, to the lumbar back of the subject. A second point of the elongate member displaces when the subject bends forwardly or rearwardly from an initial position. A displacement sensor, coupled to the elongate member, determines displacement of the second point when the subject bends forwardly or rearwardly. The device also includes AF and pelvic inclinometers for respectively measuring the rotational angles of the thorax and pelvis of the subject as well as a rotary potentiometer for measuring the twisting angle of the trunk of the subject. The device can be used as a field device for providing such measurements while the subject carries on normal physical activity.
