    view source
  • US Patent:
    7031615, Apr 18, 2006
  • Filed:
    Oct 4, 2001
  • Appl. No.:
    09/971970
  • Inventors:
Philip J. Gentile - Bridgeport NY, US
  • Assignee:
    Finisar Corporation - Sunnyvale CA
  • International Classification:
    H04B 10/08
  • US Classification:
    398155, 398154, 398 47, 398 75
  • Abstract:
A system and method of selecting and viewing communication traffic transmitted over an optical channel selected from among a plurality of possible channels without disrupting the communication traffic occurring over the selected channel or other channels is presented. The system and method includes an optical channel analyzing switch which taps each of the possible plurality of channels and selects a specific channel for routing to a network analyzer. The signal on the selected channel, prior to being analyzed by the network analyzer, undergoes clock and data recovery and retiming/recombination to mitigate contamination from routing and switching the selected original signal between the signal source and the network analyzer. The retimed and recombined channel signal results in a signal, as presented to the network analyzer, which is representative of the original channel signal.

    7522543, Apr 21, 2009
  • Filed:
    Sep 8, 2005
  • Appl. No.:
    11/223477
  • Inventors:
Eldad Matityahu - Palo Alto CA, US
Robert E. Shaw - Los Gatos CA, US
Philip J. Gentile - Redwood NY, US
  • Assignee:
Net Optics, Inc. - Santa Clara CA
  • International Classification:
    H04B 7/14
    H04B 3/36
    G06F 15/173
  • US Classification:
    370279, 370293, 370465, 709224
  • Abstract:
A high-speed communications network tap includes a first terminal and a second terminal adapted to couple the tap in-line in the network and communicate data with network devices. A duplicator is coupled to the first terminal and the second terminal and configured to duplicate the data as a copy of the data. A processor is coupled to the duplicator and to a third terminal, and is configured to receive the copy of the data from the duplicator and to provide the data to the third terminal. The third terminal is adapted to couple the tap to a network monitor and send data to the network monitor. Advantages of the invention include the ability to duplicate high-speed communication network data for monitoring in an essentially zero delay.
  • Method And Apparatus For The Prevention Of Scorching Of Fabric Subjected To Microwave Heating

    view source
  • US Patent:
    54245150, Jun 13, 1995
  • Filed:
    Oct 15, 1993
  • Appl. No.:
    8/136151
  • Inventors:
Philip J. Gentile - Syracuse NY
  • Assignee:
Micro Dry Inc. - Tulsa OK
  • International Classification:
    H05B 668
  • US Classification:
    219702
  • Abstract:
The present invention features a UV tube detector for sensing a resonant arcing condition in a microwave environment. Where clothing or fabric is being dried in a magnetron-powered, microwave chamber, the UV tube detector is placed in proximity to the fabric. The UV tube detector senses a possible resonant arcing condition related to small metal objects hidden in the material. Upon the sensing of arcing, the UV tube provides a signal for shutting down the magnetron power. In conjunction with UV detection, the moisture condition can be monitored during the drying cycle. At a point in the microwave heating cycle consistent with an "end of microwave heating cycle" or "near dryness", the power output of the magnetrons is reduced or terminated. The moist fabric can then be dried via reduced microwave heating and/or by normal heating methods, including, but not limited to, electrical radiant heating and convection techniques. In this manner, it is possible to bring the fabric to a state of dryness, despite the presence of resonant arc-producing objects.

  • Method And Apparatus For Identifying Ac Service Configuration

    view source
  • US Patent:
    50557696, Oct 8, 1991
  • Filed:
    Nov 6, 1989
  • Appl. No.:
    7/432118
  • Inventors:
Philip J. Gentile - East Syracuse NY
  • Assignee:
The Fleming Group - Syracuse NY
  • International Classification:
    G01R 2500
  • US Classification:
    324 86
  • Abstract:
A method and apparatus are described for determining the charcteristics of an alternating current electrical service at a remote panel as compared with a main panel from which the remote service is connected. The method involves the steps of selecting a line at the main panel and designating it as the reference. The phase relationship of other lines at the main service panel are determined relative to this reference by a process of deriving the period of the signal on the reference line, and from this point the phase relationship of the other line signals are determined. A counter is loaded with a value representative of the derived period of the reference signal, and finally, the characteristics of the individual service line signals at a remote location are determined by a step of comparing each with the characteristics derived for the main service panel.
  • Method And System For Electricity Storage And Discharge

    view source
  • US Patent:
    51840588, Feb 2, 1993
  • Filed:
    May 20, 1991
  • Appl. No.:
    7/703231
  • Inventors:
Bradley J. Hesse - Syracuse NY
Philip J. Gentile - East Syracuse NY
  • Assignee:
The Fleming Group - Syracuse NY
  • International Classification:
    H02J 700
  • US Classification:
    320 4
  • Abstract:
The present invention features a method and system for storing electrical energy, and then using the stored energy to recharge automobiles. The system of the invention features a number of storage and recharging facilities that are connected to a main power generating station. Power is generally demanded from the power station in the evening or during off-peak power demand periods, in order to obtain lower rates from the power utility. Also, off-peak power loading does not put a strain on the power system. The energy obtained from the power utility company is then stored at each recharging facility in a bank of capacitors. A high voltage transformer and rectifier arranged ahead of the capacitor banks converts the incoming AC high voltage power from the utility to the required DC voltage for capacitor storage. The controller distributes power to a number of charging bays that are connected to the capacitor bank. A vehicle needing charging pulls into an individual bay in the recharging facility, and is connected to a metering device having feedback control.
