Abstract:

A security device, such as a security thread, uses multiple security detection features provided by combining metal and metal/magnetic security features on a carrier substrate. The security detection features basically comprise an optionally repeating pattern of discrete metal/magnetic indicia and discrete metal or metal-dot formed indicia. The security detection features may also include at least one metal strip extending along the length of the carrier substrate and/or a plurality of metal dots located on metal-free portions of at least one surface of the substrate.

Abstract:

A security device having at least one durable tactile marking () in the form of one or more relief structures is provided. The one or more relief structures are selected from the group of elastically deformable relief structures, relatively compression-resistant relief structures, and combinations thereof. Also provided is a fibrous or non-fibrous sheet material () with at least one durable tactile marking, which is suitable for use in making secure and non-secure documents or labels. The tactile marking (s) is applied directly to a surface of the sheet material, or is provided by way of the above-described security device (s), which is mounted on a surface of the sheet material and/or at least partially embedded therein. The durable tactile marking (s) serves to provide a visually challenged person with information concerning the type and/or value of the secure or non-secure document or label.

Abstract:

The invention generally relates to a security sheet or document having one or more enhanced watermarks. In one exemplary embodiment, the inventive security sheet or document is a single-ply paper that is made up of a paper layer including one or more watermarks, and a micro-optic security device (e.g., a patch or thread) that at least partially covers an upper or face portion of the watermark(s). The overlying patch or thread increases the durability of the watermark(s), thereby allowing for the watermark(s) as well as reduced fiber density areas therein to be made larger, and further allowing for the reduced fiber density areas to be made thinner. In a preferred embodiment, the micro-optic security device projects one or more synthetic images that coordinate or link in with the watermark design(s). In a more preferred embodiment, the micro-optic security device offers a machine detectable/readable feature in the form of enhanced IR-brightness, especially when measured in transmission. As will be readily appreciated, the inventive security sheet or document offers greatly improved counterfeit-resistance.
