Abstract:

A method for customizing alerts and notifications for portable consumer device transactions is disclosed. One embodiment of the invention is directed to a method comprising receiving information that a transaction associated with a portable consumer device is occurring, and providing an alert to a consumer associated with the portable consumer device, wherein the alert indicates that the transaction is occurring, wherein the alert is sent to the consumer according to a time or communication mode previously specified by the consumer using an interface that allows the user to specify the time and communication mode for receiving the alert.

Abstract:

One embodiment of the invention is directed to a server computer comprising a processor and a computer readable medium coupled to the processor. The computer readable medium comprises code for receiving transaction data indicating that a payment transaction associated with a primary account number has occurred and matches a trigger record, code for determining whether the payment transaction qualifies for a credit, code for initiating a credit to an account associated with the primary account number, if the payment transaction qualifies for a credit, and code for sending an electronic notification message to a consumer associated with the primary account number substantially contemporaneously with receiving the transaction data. The electronic notification message includes information about a first offer and that the primary account was credited the amount of the first offer. For example, transaction data is received indicating that a consumer made a purchase with his credit card. If the purchase was in accordance with a previously sent offer, the consumer's account associated with the credit card is credited and the consumer is immediately notified that the account was credited.

Abstract:

Systems, methods and communication gateways for delivering timely, cost efficient and scalable user alert messages are disclosed. Using electronic communication media, user alert messages are generated by a communication gateway at the request of a requesting entity, such as a credit card issuer. The alert message is associated with a message identifier and then routed to one or more message aggregators based on the content of the alert message initiation request and a routing table. If the first selection of message aggregators is not available or otherwise unable to deliver the user alert message, then the communication gateway can reroute the user alert message to another message aggregator or queue the message for later delivery. The communication gateway can monitor and log the status and ability of the servicing message aggregator in the routing table to better facilitate timely delivery of the user alert messages.

Embodiments of the present invention disclosed herein include systems and methods for sending merchant alert messages. The merchant can specify criteria indicating the types of customers for which he desires to receive alerts. Merchant alert messages can be sent based on characteristics of a customer, including the customer's proximity to the merchant. The merchant can use the alert message to provide better service to the customer or prevent the customer from engaging in transactions, depending on the contents of the merchant alert message.
