Abstract:
A machine tool has a cam shaft and indexing drive mechanism which is driven by a servomotor and is therefore adapted for operation within a wide range of operational parameters. An encoder mechanism provides feedback to the servo drive mechanism to effect operational control. The machine tool further comprises a variable frequency drive motor which operates the spindles of the machine tool independently of the cam shaft and indexing drive. A servo-operated threading mechanism is operable at one or more workstations of the machine tool to provide threading of parts manufactured thereby. A computer control system controls and monitors the entire operation of the machine tool.

Abstract:
An improved spindle assembly ( ) is adapted to be mounted in an opening ( ) provided on a rotatable head ( ) of a multi-spindle machine tool. The improved spindle assembly includes a tubular main spindle part ( ) that is adapted to be inserted into the head opening and having a first abutment surface ( ), a bearing retainer ( ) adapted to be threaded into engagement with the head and having a second abutment surface ( ) arranged to face toward the first abutment surface, at least one bearing ( ) positioned radially between the head and spindle main part, and being arranged axially between the first and second abutment surfaces, and a retaining nut ( ) adapted to be threaded into engagement with the spindle main part so as to form therewith an assembled spindle.

Abstract:
The disclosed embodiments are directed to an improved automatic screw machine employing a first servomotor connected to cause rotation of a first set of tooling cams independently of the operation of a spindle drive, and a second servomotor to cause rotation of a second set of cams independently of the operation of the spindle drive, wherein a multi-axis controller controls at least the speed of the spindle drive in conjunction with at least each of the two servomotors, and where the operation of at least the two servomotors is electronically synchronized.

Abstract:
An archery or similar projectile launching device having a spring assembly to energize the device and a release mechanism to transmit energy stored within a torsion or alternative spring to the bowstring, so as to accelerate an arrow nocked to the bowstring once the trigger is released. In one embodiment, conjoined cranks wind a torsion spring within a spring motor affixed along the riser of the bow while the bowstring and arrow are concurrently brought into the discharge position. A mechanical advantage may be achieved with the cranking mechanism to reduce the effort exerted by the archer and thereby increase accuracy, velocity and ease of use.

Abstract:
The spindle supporting head of a multiple spindle screw machine is intermittently rotated to place its spindles into successively different angular positions about the axis of a spindle drive shaft which extends coaxially into the center of the head. When each spindle is rotatably indexed into a particular angular position, a piece of bar stock is fed through the spindle and projects beyond one end thereof. Each of a plurality of tool slides, which are mounted adjacent the end of the head from which the spindle projects, carries a tool which registers with the stock projecting from an adjacent spindle. The slides are connected to servo motors which are operable by an associated computer to move their tools toward and away from the stock projecting from the associated spindles. Normally the head is secured against rotation by a hirth ring which intermittently is moved from its locking position to release the head so that it can be rotatably indexed. Each spindle is surrounded by a chuck operating sleeve which causes the associated collet chuck to be opened when the spindle approaches a position immediately preceding its desired angular position, and to be closed when the spindle reaches such position.
