Plant Selectable Marker And Plant Transformation Method
A plant transformation vector for transforming host plant cells with a chimeric selectable marker gene is disclosed. The gene includes, operatively linked in sequence in a 5â to 3â direction, (i) a DNA promoter sequence from the rice beta-glucanase 9 (gns9) gene; (ii) a selectable marker gene, and (iii) a 3â untranslated terminator region. Also disclosed are a vector pair containing the transformation vector, a method of obtaining transformed monocots whose seeds produce a selected heterologous protein during sed germination, and a plant whose cells are transformed with the chimeric selectable marker gene.

International Classification:

US Classification:
426 3, 424 9463, 424440, 424464
Abstract:
This invention concerns a method of making an anti-infective composition for oral administration using an agent selected from the group consisting of lactoferrin protein and lysozyme protein. The method comprises three steps. The nucleic acid, which encodes a lactoferrin or lysozyme protein, is expressed in a monocot seed. The protein is isolated from the seed. This protein isolation compromises greater than 3% of the total soluble protein in the monocot seed. The protein is then formulated for oral administration.

US Classification:
800288, 800287
Abstract:
A method of producing human serum albumin (HSA) in monocot plant seeds, by transforming a monocot plant cell with a chimeric gene containing a promoter from the gene of a maturation-specific monocot plant storage protein, a first DNA sequence operably linked to the promoter and encoding a signal sequence, and a second DNA sequence linked in translation frame with the first DNA sequence and encoding HSA, where the first DNA sequence and the second DNA sequence together encode a fusion protein containing an N-terminal signal sequence and the HSA; growing a monocot plant from the transformed monocot plant cell for a time sufficient to produce seeds containing the HSA; and harvesting the seeds from the plant.

US Classification:
800288, 800287, 800298, 8003202, 536 241
Abstract:
The invention is directed to seed and seed extract compositions containing levels of a human milk protein between 3-40% or higher of the total protein weight of the soluble protein extractable from the seed. Also disclosed is a method of producing the seed with high levels of extractable human milk protein. The method includes transforming a monocotyledonous plant with a chimeric gene having a protein-coding sequence encoding a protein normally present in human milk under the control of a seed maturation-specific promoter. The method may further includes a leader DNA sequence encoding a monocot seed-specific transit sequence capable to target a linked milk protein to a storage body.
Plant Transcription Factors And Enhanced Gene Expression

Ventria Bioscience - Sacramento CA
International Classification:
C12N 15/82 C12N 5/04
US Classification:
800278, 800287, 800290
Abstract:
The invention relates to transgenic plants that demonstrate enhanced expression of a plant transcription factor under the control of a seed specific promoter such that expression of the transcription factor activates transcription of a native or non-native coding sequence in the plant. The invention further relates to a method of generating such transgenic plants and methods for enhancing the level of expression of a selected heterologous protein in seeds of such transgenic plants.
