However, former students were not informed of the decision to add coed residential programs until after the vote had been cast by the "I am disgusted," said graduate Francesca Wallace on Mary Baldwin's Facebook page."You inundated us with emails about changing the name, which by the way, we all know was going to be changed no matter what. And this is the first we are hearing of this?"s degree in psychology from Easter Mennonite University. But when she was a student at Mary Baldwin then College she used to starther days the same way, at Hunt Hall, where she and her friends would read the Washington Post, talk about current events and then complete the crossword puzzle."Everything was centered around your friends and what was going on," Loretoni said. "For the past few generations, Mary Baldwin was aboutgetting away from thepatriarchy... When you pass through those doors you know you have a a voice and you can use it."The news that the dynamic of life at Mary Baldwin would soon change with the admittance of male undergraduates for the first time was met with sadness and disappointment forLoretoni and so many others.
As one of the last all-female institutions of higher learning in the state, the decision to close Sweet Briar resonated with not just alumnae of that school, but students and alumnae of Mary Baldwin College and Hollins University, the last two all-female colleges in Virginia.Glenda Wray Luckie Jennings posted on Mary Baldwin College's page saying, "As an alumna of Mary Baldwin who lives in Amherst less than five minutes from Sweet Briar, I am so grateful to see the outpouring of support for Sweet Briar from my alma mater. Same-sex colleges remain a staple for some students
"I think that the benefit of college for women has perhaps shifted through the years," said Crista Cabe, vice president for communication, marketing and public affairs for Mary Baldwin College. "As we look at data there are really important Patagonian benefits for women to have an environment in whiMary Baldwin and Hollins University in Roanoke are the only remaining all-female undergraduate colleges in the state. Although, In 1977, Mary Baldwin allowed men to enroll in the adult degree and graduate programs.having new market offerings, but it's creating the synergies of them to benefit all students in future programs," Cabe said. "I think it's that diversification and entrepreneurial spirit in paying attention to what students need. I see a very strong future for Mary Baldwin and many other institutions."

Especially coming from our school, I think the community will have a better outlook, seeing Mary Baldwin involved with the community not just as a school.But, according to Katherine Low, professor of religion and chaplain at Mary Baldwin, shes impressed with the turnout, especially with her students. Last year, she said she only had two students who came out, which has grown to 32.

Women in Staunton briefed on services available under federal health care
On Monday, members of Virginia Organizing visited downtown Staunton, the Staunton Senior Center and Mary Baldwin College to tell women of the free services available under the federal Affordable Care Act. The visit came during National Womens Health Care Week.Members of Virginia Organizing stopped by the Staunton Senior Center in early afternoon, and met with some of the citys seniors who participate in the weekday programs. Later, the group visited the Spencer Center for Engagement at Mary Baldwin.
