A device is provided for diagnosing internal disc disruption in an intervertebral disc in a patients spine. A needle is used for injecting a contrast media with increasing pressure into the nucleus pulposis of one of the patients intervertebral discs suspected to be disrupted are provided. As the pressure of the contrast media in the patients intervertebral disc is increased, a measurement of the pressure, photographic images of the patients facial expressions, x-ray images of the patients intervertebral disc are displayed simultaneously and in real time on a display. In addition, the patients vocalizations are captured and broadcast by the display. A recorder for recording the images on the display and the vocalizations may also be provided.
An implantation device is disclosed, with the implantation device including an introducer member having an opening and a substantially flexible catheter located in an inner portion of the introducer member. The catheter selectively extends from the introducer member and is configured to both contain and selectively deliver an implantable member. The implantable member is guided by the catheter along a circumferential path of an inner portion of a body receiving treatment, and a blocker of the implantation device prevents retraction of the implantable member from the inner portion of the body when retracting the catheter into the introducer member after implanting the implantable member. When the body is an intervertebral disc, the catheter follows a substantially circumferential path located in a transition zone between the annulus fibrosis and the nucleus pulposus of the intervertebral disc and deposits the implantable member comprising medication, stem cell infusion, or both.

Abstract:
Representations of physiological structures for thermal treatment simulation. Training operators of the treatment devices by physically illustrating thermal profiles on organs, tissue, and nerves in real time may advantageously provide an understanding of heating and/or cooling effects. An experimenter may witness the thermal effects of lesion creation (e.g., RF lesion creation) rather than just monitoring a thermocouple temperature and assuming end-organ/tissue/nerve effects.
