Abstract:
Tooless assembly of a keyboard into an information handling system housing is performed by dropping the keyboard into an opening of the housing so that tabs and hooks of the keyboard align with tab slots and hook slots of the housing, by sliding the keyboard relative to the housing to engage the tabs in the tab slots and the hooks in the hook slots, and by securing the keyboard from moving relative to the housing with a tooless keyboard lock. For instance, a portable information handling system having a hinged lid secures the keyboard from sliding by inserting a hinge cover between the keyboard and the housing, the hinge cover having rib structures to keep it in place. Sliding of the keyboard relative to the housing is aided with a pull tab coupled to the keyboard that stores under the hinge cover once assembly is complete.
Vertically Docking An Information Handling System To A Media Slice

International Classification:

US Classification:

Abstract:
A media slice includes a guide member and a docking surface with locating members, locking members and a first connector. A cavity in the media slice is open to the docking surface. An information handling system includes locating member receivers and a second connector. The information handling system is docked in the media slice by using the guide member and locating members to align the information handling system above the media slice. The locating members engage the locating member receivers and hold the information handling system parallel to the docking surface. With the locating members and locating member receivers engaged, the information handling system may be lowered onto the media slice, allowing the first connector and second connector to be mated and the locking members to lock the information handling system to the media slice. A battery may be stored in the cavity to be locked into the information handling system/media slice combination.

Abstract:
A portable information handling system such as a laptop computer includes a chassis having a pivotally mounted top. The chassis includes a keyboard and the top includes a display panel. The top and chassis are connected by a hinge. A hinge cap is releasably attached directly to the hinge and the hinge is mounted on the chassis. A loose fit of the hinge cap on the hinge permits the hinge cap to float relative to the hinge. Each of the hinge cap and a chassis cover plate include a mating, tapered surface so that when the hinge cap seats in the cover plate, the location of the hinge cap relative to the chassis cover plate is determined by the mating engagement.

Abstract:
A hinge includes a hinge portion having a pair of external opposed grooves and a first locking portion. A hinge cap is removably attached to the hinge portion by a pair of external deflecting arms received by the opposed grooves and a second locking portion received by the first locking portion. In response to mounting the hinge in the first member, the hinge cap seats in and defines a gap with a cover plate on the first member.

Abstract:
A portable computing device includes a display unit and a base unit coupled via a hinge such that a surface of the display unit is parallel to a surface of the display unit when the portable computing device is manipulated into a folded position. The display unit includes a display panel and a radiating element of an antenna, the radiating element disposed at an end of the display unit that is distal to the hinge. The base unit includes one or more information handling components and a metal base chassis, the metal base chassis defining a keep out aperture at a distal end of the base unit that is substantially devoid of metal material from the metal base chassis. The keep out aperture is axially displaced from a position of the radiating element when the portable computing device is manipulated into the folded position.
System And Method For Self-Stowing Information Handling System Lid Latch

Abstract:
A portable information handling system has an automatic latching system that maintains a lid having a display in a desired position relative to a housing, such as a closed position having the lid closed proximate the housing and including a tablet configuration having the display exposed in the closed position. A post automatically extends from the housing into the lid when in the closed position to prevent rotation of the lid. The post automatically retracts into the housing when the lid is in the open position to provide an aesthetically pleasing latch solution for tablet portable information handling systems.
