Abstract:

A method and apparatus are disclosed for causing a telephone device to selectively originate a call as a circuit-switched call or a packet-switched call, depending on the telephone number dialed by a user of the telephone device. By way of example, the telephone device can determine that the dialed telephone number is an international telephone number and can responsively originate the call as a packet-switched call, or the telephone device can determine that the dialed telephone number is not an international telephone number and can responsively originate the call as a circuit-switched call.

Abstract:

A communication device has a data application and a voice application. The device establishes a data session between the data application and a data system. During the data session, the device receives a voice session request from a voice communication system, and in response, alerts the user of the request and transfers a voice session request indication from the voice application to the data application. The device receives user acceptance of the voice session request, and in response, transfers a voice session acceptance indication from the voice application to the data application. In response to the voice session indications, the device transfers a data session message from the data application to the data system and then transfers a ready indication from the data application to the voice application. In response to the ready indication, the communication device then transfers a voice session acceptance from the voice application to the voice communication system.

Abstract:

A method and system for selectively applying a cellular-PBX integration service. When a radio access network (RAN) receives a call request for a served wireless communication device (WCD), call setup signaling passes to a call session control function (CSCF), and a determination is made as to whether the WCD is currently checked-into or checked-out of the cellular-PBX integration service. If the WCD is checked-in, the call is set up to an IPPBX server for handling. If the WCD is checked-out, the call is set up back to the RAN for handling. Similarly, the CSCF may receive call setup signaling in response to a call dialed to an IPPBX extension associated with the WCD, and the check-in/check-out status of the WCD may be used as a basis to decide whether to send the call to the RAN for handling or whether to return the call to the IPPBX server for handling.

Multimedia services are provided to a subscriber within a domain of a communication network, wherein the subscriber utilizes one or more predetermined access terminals to access the multimedia services according to a network presence configuration of the subscriber. Each access terminal has respective multimedia capabilities, and the domain includes an application server for accessing the multimedia services. A user profile is established for the subscriber relating respective presence identifiers to a respective user service definition, wherein each user service definition specifies a set of the predetermined access terminals and respective multimedia services to be available for a respective network presence configuration. A current presence identifier of the subscriber is registered. The application server accesses the user profile to determine a user service definition corresponding to the current presence identifier.

Ways for facilitating a method of controlling a media session that includes audio and video data are provide.
