Abstract:
Provided are systems, methods and techniques for establishing a pricing structure for reserving a resource. An option is selected from among a plurality of available options with respect to delivery of a resource at a specified future time, and then the selected option is presented to a customer. Each of the plurality of options includes: (i) a reservation price at which the customer may reserve the resource, and (ii) a compensation amount that must be paid if the resource is not delivered at the specified future time. The specified future time may be either a point in time or an interval of time.

Abstract:
Methods are disclosed for determining the relative binding affinities of molecules for their binding partner. One type of molecule is an antibody, which has an antigen binding partner. Antibodies are tested for binding against limited dilutions of antigen. Antibodies that bind to the most dilute antigen concentrations are determined to have a higher relative binding affinity for the antigen than antibodies that only bind to more concentrated antigen preparations.

Abstract:
The relevance of documents is automatically determined based upon a weighted tree. Terms considered to be relevant are assigned to the leaf nodes of a tree data structure. A location can also be specified in a leaf node, indicating where in a document the term must appear to be considered relevant. Internal nodes of the tree are assigned operators (e. g. , add, maximum or minimum). The connections between nodes are assigned weights. A relevance value for a given document is calculated as a function of occurrence in the document of terms assigned to leaves, operators assigned to internal nodes, and weights assigned to the associated node connections. Weighted trees can be used to process search queries. Documents with high relevance scores calculated against the tree can be returned to a user as the results to a query.

Abstract:
Provided are techniques for allowing consumers to reserve a resource, in which potential consumers have a choice among a number of different reservation contracts for reserving a resource to be provided at a future time. Each reservation contract allows a corresponding contracting customer to elect whether to receive the resource and requires the contracting customer to make a first payment in aggregate if the resource ultimately is elected and to make a second payment in aggregate if the resource ultimately is not elected, with the first payment being higher than the second payment, and with both being nonzero.

Abstract:
Described are various embodiments which enable organizations to track and use knowledge and expertise of their associated individuals. An organization can use exemplary embodiments to automatically summarize the expertise of each individual from documents available from internal or external web sites. For example, a web crawler crawls a computer network to identify documents that name an individual. Summaries of the documents are generated based on articles in an encyclopedia, and a profile is built of the individual using the summaries. These summaries are used for automatically searching and automatically discovering individuals having particular knowledge or expertise on certain topics and subjects.

Abstract:
A method and system for ranking results for a network search query. The method includes receiving a network search query; obtaining weblogs relevant to the search query from a database; scoring the weblogs based on a time when information pertaining to the search query appeared on weblogs; and displaying a ranking of the weblogs.

Abstract:
The location of a user over time is monitored by a mobile device. The monitored locations are organized into tracks that describe a path or route that the user took over a period of time. Segments that correspond to each of the tracks are determined. The segments may correspond to road on a map, or some other standardization. The segments are associated with their corresponding tracks, and used to identify similar tracks or to generate similarity scores for pairs of tracks.
Data-Driven Variable Length Encoding Of Fixed-Length Data
A data-driven encoder receives fixed-length bit fields and generates variable length bit fields that are, on average, smaller than the fixed-length bit fields. The data-driven encoder removes leading zeros from a fixed-length bit field and appends a prefix code to the remaining bits that identifies the number of remaining bits. In an embodiment, the data-driven encoder may further append leading zeros before the prefix code to produce variable length bit fields having sizes that are integer multiples of bytes. The decoder identifies the original fixed-length bit fields from the variable length encoded bit fields.
