Abstract:

A quantum approach to the economically significant n-player public goods or similar n-player game requires only two-particle entanglement and is thus much easier to implement than games requiring n-particle entanglements. Two-particle entanglements are sufficient to give near optimal expected payoff when players use a simple mixed strategy for which no player can benefit by making different choices. This mechanism can also address some heterogeneous preferences among the players. Quantum games in accordance with the invention can be simulated on classical computers without requiring impractical amounts of processing power for large numbers of players.

Abstract:

A light emitting diode (LED) apparatus for mounting to a heat sink having a front surface with an opening therein is disclosed. The apparatus includes a sub-mount, at least one LED die mounted on the sub-mount, and a thermally conductive slug having first and second areas. The first area is thermally coupled to the sub-mount and the second area has a post protruding outwardly therefrom. The post is operably configured to be received in the opening in the heat sink and to secure the LED apparatus to the heat sink such that the second area is thermally coupled to the front surface of the heat sink. Other embodiments for mounting an LED apparatus utilizing adhesive thermally conductive material, spring clips, insertion snaps, or welding are also disclosed.

An illumination device includes a light source, such as one or more light emitting diodes and a wavelength converting element that is mounted on an opaque support structure. The support structure includes an aperture with which the wavelength converting element is aligned so that the converted light is emitted through the aperture. The wavelength converting element may be a rigid structure, such as a luminescent ceramic and the aperture may be a hole through the support structure. The support structure may hold the wavelength converting element so that it is physically separated from the light source, or alternatively, the support structure may place the wavelength converting element in physical contact with the light source.

Methods are disclosed for determining the relative binding affinities of molecules for their binding partner. One type of molecule is an antibody, which has an antigen binding partner. Antibodies are tested for binding against limited dilutions of antigen. Abstract:

The relevance of documents is automatically determined based upon a weighted tree. Terms considered to be relevant are assigned to the leaf nodes of a tree data structure. A location can also be specified in a leaf node, indicating where in a document the term must appear to be considered relevant. Internal nodes of the tree are assigned operators (e. g. , add, maximum or minimum). The connections between nodes are assigned weights. A relevance value for a given document is calculated as a function of occurrence in the document of terms assigned to leaves, operators assigned to internal nodes, and weights assigned to the associated node connections. Weighted trees can be used to process search queries. Documents with high relevance scores calculated against the tree can be returned to a user as the results to a query.
