Abstract:

A stripper roller for use in a stripper unit subassembly is disclosed to simplify changing and replacement of parts. Brushes and batts are mounted in interlocking core segments that rotate in rigid accompaniment with a center shaft. The core segments are secured together and secured to the center shaft using retainer caps, and the retainer caps in turn are secured to the shaft to prevent lateral sliding of the stripper roller. Individual batts and brushes may be inserted into or removed from a reusable core segment, or the individual batts and brushes may be integrally affixed to replaceable core segments.

Abstract:

A flexible strip brush element is constructed from multiple monofiliments arranged in a parallel fashion and attached at one end to a flexible base. The monofiliments are attached to the base by intermingling material from the base with material from the monofiliments. The free ends of the monofiliments collectively form a bristle end zone. A plurality of flexible strip brush elements may be bonded side-by-side so the free ends of the monofiliments form a common bristle end zone. The bonded flexible strip brush elements may take the form of a linear section or may be fashioned into an endless loop or jointless spiral.

Abstract:

A method for manufacturing a flexible strip brush element is disclosed. A multiplicity of thermoplastic monofilaments respectively having first ends and second ends are arranged in substantially parallel fashion and at a prescribed density. Heat is applied to the first ends of the monofilaments so as to melt the first ends of the monofilaments. The monofilaments are transported toward an extrusion die comprising an outlet. Molten thermoplastic resin is extruded from an extrusion die outlet, wherein the outlet is shaped to produce a base having a top and a bottom. The first ends of the monofilaments are brought into physical contact with the top of the base as the base emerges from the extrusion die outlet. The monofilaments and the base are cooled so that the first ends of the monofilaments are fused to the top of the base and the second ends of the monofilaments are free.
