Abstract:
The Supine Elevation Cycle is uniquely designed to provide multiple levels of physical therapy, or if desired, a vigorous and effective cardiovascular workout while minimizing painful and damaging physical impact on the body's major joints. The SEC features an elevated cycling device whereby the user exercises in a supine or reclined position while pedaling with the lower extremities positioned above the level of the heart. This results in a transfer of weight bearing stress from major joints to the large muscles in the calves, thighs, abdomen and back. With an adjustable back support, the user, utilizing the extension and angling features of the cycling device, can target numerous muscle groups of the body and extremities. Additional supine or upright positions with proper adjustment of the apparatus allow the targeting of muscle groups in the arms, shoulders, chest and back. Magnetic resistance in the exercise operation assembly affords a wide range of cycling resistance, from light stretching or controlled muscle therapy, to the most intense cardiovascular workout.
A lightweight, portable exercise device that includes a body-encircling strap that can be adjustably fitted about various portions of the user's body. Connected to the central portion of the body-encircling strap are two adjacently positioned elastomeric cords that can be extended by the user in a manner to enable the user to exercise body muscles of the arms, legs, shoulders and back while walking, sitting, standing, or lying. Attached to each of the elastomeric cords is a pair of gripping members for gripping by the hands and feet of the trainee. The gripping members and the elastomeric cords are uniquely arranged so as to enable the trainee to selectively exercise against the resistance offered by one, or by both of the elastomeric cords.
A lightweight, portable exercise device that includes a body-encircling strap that can be adjustably fitted about various portions of the user's body. Removably connected to the body-encircling strap are a plurality of exercise, or resistance modules of differing resistance. The resistance modules are slidably connected to the body encircling strap so that they can be positioned at various locations along the length of the strap. The resistance specially designed so that various exercises can be performed using only the resistance modules after they have been separated from a body encircling strap.
Device And Method For Assisting In Artificial Respiration
A device and method are set forth to assist in providing artificial respiration and at the same time avoid intimate contact. Included is a conduit defining an airway with an outwardly projecting flange portion to be received in the person's mouth and seal against the inside surface of the lips about the mouth opening. A check valve prevents reverse flow of air through the device. The device may be adapted to also define a tongue depressor. The person providing artificial respiration blows through the device to supply respiring air to the person receiving the same.
