Abstract:
A pulse density modulation circuit has a counter which produces a most significant bit through a least significant bit output based on a clock input. The circuit also has a comparator with two sets of most significant bit through least significant bit inputs that produces an output based on a comparison of the two sets of inputs. The first set of comparator most significant bit through least significant bit inputs receives respectively a most significant bit through a least significant bit of an input reference signal. The second set of comparator most significant bit through least significant bit inputs receives the counter most significant bit through least significant bit output in a non-sequential bit order. The non-sequential bit order can be a bit reversed order wherein the counter most significant bit through least significant bit output are respectively connected to the comparator least significant bit through most significant bit input. The circuit may further filter the comparator output to provide a resultant analog output signal.
Method And Apparatus For Multiplying A Pulse Modulated Signal By An Analog Control Signal
The present invention is a novel and improved method and apparatus of multiplying an analog signal by a pulse modulated signal. The apparatus includes a CMOS or equivalent gate. The pulse modulated signal is applied to the input of the gate. The analog control signal is applied to the power pin of the part. The output of the gate is the product of the two signals. The output may be lowpass filtered to obtain a resultant analog value. A scaling and offset circuit can be used to scale the output to comprise a zero pulse width modulation value wherein the value of the analog control signal has no affect on the resultant analog value.

Abstract:
An amplifier circuit for providing an amplified signal in response to an input signal. The amplifier circuit includes an input network for applying the input signal to a selected at least one of a plurality of amplifier stages. An output network is provided for coupling the amplified signal from the selected at least one amplifier stage. The appropriate amplifier stage is selected by a control circuit in response to a desired power value of the amplified signal. By selectively activating only the amplifier stage(s) that are necessary to provide the desired level of output power, increased DC efficiency can be accomplished in applications that require an amplifier which operates linearly over a wide dynamic range.

Abstract:
In a push-to-talk dispatch system, a method and apparatus for providing an accelerated response to a push-to-talk origination message. A first base station allocates a first set of equipment to support a push-to-talk connection. A first system controller allocates a second set of equipment to support the push-to-talk connection. Upon receipt of a push-to-talk origination message from a first remote unit, the first base station transmits an immediate response to the first remote unit, instructing it to communicate through the first set of equipment and the second set of allocated equipment.

Abstract:
A high dynamic range linear automatic gain control (AGC) circuit that has independent means for temperature compensation. The temperature compensation circuit of this invention can be used in a closed-loop AGC circuit such as is required in a transceiver for compensating the gains of receiver and transmitter amplifiers to ensure that both track closely over ranges of temperature, frequency and load impedance. The temperature compensation signal is coupled to one of the two gates in a field effect transistor (FET) amplifier to maintain a constant gain function over ranges of temperature, frequency and load impedance. Thermal compensation for the transmitter amplifier is derived from the thermal compensation signal for the receiver amplifier.

Abstract:
In a communications network, a remote unit communicates with another user via at least one base station. The network has a plurality of base stations controlled by a mobile switching center. Each base station of the plurality of base stations transmits an identifying pilot signal. To defining an area in which communication between a set of the base stations and the remote unit is forbidden, an auxiliary antenna transmits a silent region identifying pilot signal. The remote unit measures a signal strength of a set of identifying pilot signals corresponding to a neighbor set of base stations and measures a signal strength of the silent region identifying pilot signal. The remote unit sends a pilot strength measurement report to the mobile switching center via a first base station with which the remote unit has established communication. A handoff of the established communication between the remote unit and the first base station is initiated if the pilot strength measurement report comprises an entry corresponding to the silent region identifying pilot signal.
